Any Movies Better Than The Book?

    Save Changes Cancel

Has anyone seen a film that was equally or possibly even better than the novel. I can only think of a few like The Kite Runner and The Secret Life Of Bees, but would love to see peoples opinions.

I have to say again, the movie I think is WAY better than the book is "Under the Tuscan Sun". The movie was a fun, girly romantic movie, the book was a BORING travelogue. I couldn't even finish it. The character in the book wasn't divorced, and didn't move to Italy. She just vacationed there in the summer and talked on and on endlessly about food and touristy stuff... ugh. The movie was fun and cheesy and enteraining. Definitely better than the book.

Oh, yeah, and "White Oleander" was better in movie form... the book dragged on for ages and that poor girl suffered one misfortune after another and it just got ridiculous, all the rotten stuff that happened to her. Two or three misfortunes happening was one thing, but NOBODY could be that unlucky! The movie cut away the most unlikely of events and whittled it to a believable amount of bad events.

Totally agree. I am *not* a fan of James Fenimore Cooper. The Deerslayer was even worse than The Last of the Mohicans.

In Her Shoes by Jennifer Weiner. Any book written by this author is better on the screen.

The lord of the rings. I'm into myths and magical stuff but 3 (Three) volumes of it was waaay too much even for me of endless descriptions of realms that did not even make to the main plot and the main interest of the narrative. I thoroughly enjoyed the movies because it kept it simpler.

Having read the book before seeing the movie did not spoil Confession of a Shopaholic (the movie) for me. I enjoyed it.
Slumdog Millionaire the movie is nothing compared to Q & A the book.

i really liked matilda. and i started reading confessions of a teenage drama queen i couldn't really get into it, the movie was way better. even though lindsay has problems, she really knows how to being characters to life.

I dont have one!! I have a big imagination so reading books is a way i can think about how my character looks, how the monsters in books talk in my head!! but i haven't read ALL the books that have been made into a movie.

I read a book by T. S. Hinton (?) called Tex that I liked. It is a coming of age book that was made into a movie starring Matt Dillion. Loved the movie. It was better than the book.

I always think books are far better than their movies. But I think that the phantom of the opera movie was equal to the book.

only one i can recall is Titus it goes in absolutely sequence with the shakespeare read "Titus Andronicus" and come on the movie stars Anthony Hopkins! brilliant actor!

thanks for all of those that mentioned "The Notebook" and "P.S. I Love You" I was debating about reading these two stories! I love both of the movies and thought maybe the books are worth reading but if they weren't nearly as good as the movie then i am glad i didn't pick these books up ha ha

    well happy reading all!

I like all of these books a lot (with the exception of Fight Club) but the movies were all somewhere between good and great, and slightly better than the books.

    Fight Club
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
    Jurassic Park
    The Princess Bride
    To Kill a Mockingbird
    Into the Wild

I think the book is just okay, but I love the movie The Hours. I think it is amazing.

Revolutionary Road's book and movie are tied, along with Fight Club.

Children of Men is better as a movie, though the book is still very good. VERY DIFFERENT. I love both versions, just the movie more.

I liked Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet better than Shakespeare's, lol.

Real fast I think of two. Shaft but if you are less put of by sex and language that may not hold true for you. Hondo is the most glaring in large part because Chief Vittorio with the rest of the Apache are given more attention and detail.
