I'm pretty sure the authors often have no choice at all in the title of the book. Tom LoCicero was not happy about the Agatha-Christie-sounding title of his book, Murder In The Synagogue, but he didn't have a better one to suggest so he finally sort of shrugged and went along with it.
And I know if they had any veto power, they would definitely do something about the jacket copy.
