OK, I was just thinking about this. Sabine Dardenne's captor was quite a filthy man aside from his sexual perversions -- she describes his place repeatedly as a garbage heap.
And that reminded me of Kendall Francois in Fred Rosen's Body Dump -- the house was such a pit that the other three people living there didn't realize good old Kendall was stashing dead women around the house in Hefty bags.
Des Nilsen wasn't always a slob, but as his life deteriorated his once-immaculate kitchen came to be grease-encrusted and disgusting.
Ed Gein's house was totally disgusting even after you subtracted the nipple accessories and skull tableware. Only his mother's room was tidy, sealed shut as if to keep out the filth.
On the other hand, Angelo Buono -- a disgusting piece of filth by any standard -- was so tidy that when they searched his house, the police couldn't find a single fingerprint anywhere in the house, even Angelo's. No dust, not a single dirty dish.
Is there really a pattern to this? I tend to remember these places as filthy and cluttered as a rule, with places like Angelo's being glaring exceptions. Any other examples, people?
