Myron Bolitar Novels vs. Stand Alone Novels

Do you prefer Coben's Myron Bolitar series or his stand alone novels? I'm interested in what everyones opinion is.

I haven't read all of the Myron Bolitar series yet, but I do own all of them. Right now I'm kind of torn on which I prefer.

I've only read Bolitars so far, but started Gone for Good this morning, which is a non-Bolitar.

I'll start to form an opinion when I finish that...

Gone for Good actually reminded me of the Bolitar novels in places, particularly the 2 main characters of Will & Squares, who seem very similar to Myron and Win...

    Very enjoyable book.

I hadn't noticed this, but that's probably because I haven't read enough of the Bolitar series yet. I'll have to look for similarities.

The other non-Bolitar on my list is Tell No One, so I'll look out for any similarities in that one too...

I have 3 or 4 more Bolitar novels to read too.

I've only read one Myron Bolitar series book (Deal Breaker) and absolutely loved it. The character is very similar to the Mitch Rapp character found in many of Vince Flynn's novels and I absolutely adore the character. However, many of Coben's stand alone books are good too. In fact, it was a stand alone book of Coben's that first turned me on to the author and his books (The Innocent). Since then, I haven't ever read a bad Harlan Coben book.

His stand alone novel Tell No One is what got me hooked on Coben. I've noticed a lot of his fans have said that all it took was reading one of his books to keep them coming back for more and really wanting to read more.

I prefer the Myron Bolitar series over the stand alones. I find it comforting to read about a character as he/she evolves over the course of a series of books. It's like having the same actors from a movie appear in the sequel.

I love finding new series to read because of that reason. Character development is a major part of novels for me. Plot is important as well, but I love character development. Which is why I'm torn when it comes to Coben's books. His stand alone books are amazing and his Bolitar series is equally amazing and I get to relive the characters over and over again.

      Completely agree.

I have yet to read a bad Coben book (I haven't read his more recent legal thriller yet so can't speak to that), and I love the style he employs where he grabs you from the first page vs the longer foreplay many others use.
I really like both types of his books. If I were forced to choose though, I'd go with Myron and Win. :)

I don't really care for the Myron Bolitar series but I love his stand alone books. I also heard Harlan Coben speak at a conference. He was great - very funny.
