    Honey's Books for 2009

Well, here's to a new year.

66 last year, and we'll see how we do this year.

    1) March - Geraldine Brooks (Jan. 3)

*I thought that the story was simple. Not really sure why it won the Pulitzer, and I wasn't too impressed by the character of March. I thought he was full of himself.

    2) The Elephant Man - Bernard Pomerance (Jan. 4)

*A really short but powerful play. Makes me curious about how the Elephant Man really looked like.

    5) Grave Sight - Charlaine Harrs (Jan. 12)

*On a Harris roll, only because she's easy to read, and I can knock off these books in my TBR quickly. Oh, did I mention I enjoy reading her books, too. This one is, of course, a bit more realistic and subtle than her Sookie Stackhouse series. The irony in the story is a bit too obvious, though.

    6) Grave Surprise - Charlaine Harris (Jan. 14)

*Still on Harris, because I find this series refreshing after all the supernatural elements of the Stackhouse series. Though of course this has supernatural elements of its own, I like it for its reality.

    8) A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail - Bill Bryson (Jan. 19)

*For a non-fiction book, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. It's hilarious and informative, all at the same time. Oh, and for some reason, it made me appreciate hiking without feeling the need that I should do it.:)

    11) An Ice-cold Grave - Charlaine Harris (Jan. 23)

    12) The Time-Warp Trio: Knights of the Kitchen Table - Jon Scieszka (Jan. 28)

*Was getting frustrated that it's taking me a while to finish Don DeLillo, so I just knocked this one off my TBR. Surprisingly, I kinda liked it.:)

    13) Dragondrums - Anne McCaffrey (Feb. 1)

*Much of the same kind of conflict as in the last two books, though there was a bit more excitement in this one. Only a bit.

    15) Stormbreaker - Anthony Horowitz (Feb. 3)

*First book in the Alex Rider series. Full of adrenaline action, but a little too unbelievable, even, I think, for 14 year old boys.

    16) White Noise - Don DeLillo (Feb. 5)

    23) Vampire Knight, Volume 2 - Matsuri Hino (Mar. 1)

    24) The Inheritance of Loss - Kiran Desai (Mar. 2)
*Took me a while to finish this, but I actually liked reading it slowly. Kinda like, if you ride in a fast vehicle through lovely scenery, you'll miss out on the beauty. So many lyrical parts.

    25) No Country for Old Men - Cormac McCarthy (Mar. 2)
*Highly disturbing. Not because of the violence, but because of the seeming pointlessness of it all.

    26) The Birth of Venus - Sarah Dunant (Mar. 6)

    40) Ella Enchanted - Gail Carson Levine (April 19)

*Cute retelling of Cinderella. I liked it.

    41) Bunnicula - Deborah and James Howe (April 19)
