    Playing With Fire

    Save Changes Cancel

I have just finished "Playing With Fire: a Silver Dragon Novel" by Katie MacAlister... well silly me, I read it after I read its sequel! It didn't matter much to me, I like these Dragon/Para-normal series because they are: light, funny & easy to read...Not because they are "Romance" (yucko!) but because I am "Paranormal" myself! Also, you have to love Newfie, Demon Jim...in fact I want one!

I have no interest in MacAlister's other "romances", I tried one and it just didn't interest me....

I also really like the Undead...series by...ummmmm....Mary Janice Davidson, except the last one had too much profanity, it really turned me off to begin the book with all those filthy words. It seemed as the words were put in there just for "effect", which was stupid, but once I got past the profanity, I enjoyed the book....

Well If you think Mary Janice Davidson is bad stay away fro Laurell K Hamilton. You would have a stroke.. hehe. I love the Queen Betsy Series and The Fred the Mermaid:)

It was just the last book which opened with a spewing of more profanity that she has ever used in this series...and I know it was for pure "shock value", which in my opinion is a poor way to write and totally lowered my interest in her as an author. I mean if you're gonna spew profanity...then make it for a good reason & make it interesting, not just out of the blue for "effect".

I don't know who Hamilton is, but I know I have seen her books in our PB section and they seem to hold very little interest for me...

I love Laurell K Hamilton.. She has two series that I love to read:) I dont mind profanity... I guess I am immune to it... Now what gets me is the Anne Rice under that other pen name ... I forget but she wrote 3 books.. Its reffered to as the Sleeping Beauty Series.. Now that was "shock value". ugh yuck

Like I sated It wasn't the profanity, it was how & when it was used. But being "older" I guess that could be expected from me....Fuddy Duddy.

LOL! We so do NOT have the same taste...I LOVE Erotica....especially well written.

"The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty" "Beauty's Punishment" & "Beauty's Release" by A. N. Roquelaure.

I once owned the trilogy, but I donated it to the library and added it to the collection when our first copies mysteriously disappeared....this is a popular series, and well written.

"Exit to Eden" was the same, but more "romantic". The movie version was a complete joke and was very far off the story line.

You bet, these are very sexually descriptive books and not for those with "straight laced" tastes. However, since this is what a particular group of society likes,. there is no reason not to cater to their tastes as well....

    To each his own.

I know you said you really don't like romance, but here are three authors that write dragon series. G.A. Aiken (Dragon Actually, About a Dragon), Deborah Cooke (Kiss of Fire, Kiss of Fury, Kiss of Fate), and Allyson James (The Black Dragon, Dragon Heat, The Dragon Master). They're all listed as paranormal romances, but I thought they were really good. G.A. Aiken is a hilarious author. Hope it helps.

I'll take you up on these recommendations. I love hilarious! Are these dragon stories?

Yeah. The G.A. Aiken stories I believe take place in the past, but with the way she writes you really can't tell. It's a series about a dysfunctional dragon family, complete with sibling rivalry. The third book comes out later this year...September, I think.
