"WTF?"

Ever started reading a book that everyone else seems to love and you just don't get the attraction? Or picked up a book from an author you usually love and wondered if the latest offering was written while talking on the phone? Or perhaps you read the first three chapters of a book and still can't figure out what's going on, who the characters...more »

I started reading it but stopped when it got sick-creepy. I like creepy in a Victoria Holt/Barbara Michaels/Phyllis Whitney classical sense, but not like 13th Tale, which is supposed to be a revitalization of the gothic genre.

    Thirteenth Tale is Horrible.

It is serioulsy one of the worst books I've ever read.

Instead of letting it collect dust, just give it to someone you would like to punish greatly and tell them the book is slow but the ending.... THE ENDING!!! IT'S WORTH IT ALL AT THE ENDING!!!

(It's really not, it's just a mean trick to make them read it. The ending sucked just as bad as the rest of the book)

I actually really liked the book- liked it even more when I got to discuss it with a few friends. But if you've started it 4 times, it's probably just not your cup of tea, time to move on!

I really loved "The Historian" (another very polarizing book- you either loved it or hated it) and when Thirteenth Tale came out, I bought it immediately because they said it was the next "Historian". I actually think that marketing hurt the book- they were nothing alike, and would attract different audiences given the chance! So I was disappointed in that respect, but as I said I did enjoy the book as a novel.
