The series contains two trilogies so far. They are a part of the same world.

So The Summoning is book one in the main series, AND book one in the first trilogy. And so on.
The Gathering is Book one of the Darkness Rising trilogy, but it's also book 4 in the Darkest Powers main series.
There are two short stories that are set in the Darkest Powers world, but they are not a part of any of the trilogies:
