    Lisey's Story and Duma Key

Do these stories pick up the pace? I have started both and have not made it very far on either I am so bored with them. Are they worth the time?

I really enjoyed Duma Key and I think it is definitely worth the time to read it, but I just could not get into Lisey's Story. I thought it was very slow starting and there was just nothing about it that caught my interest.

Duma Key takes about 300 pages before it resembles a Stephen King novel, but the ending was very satisfying. Lisey's Story is more of a love story than a Stephen King novel. There are some King elements towards the end but the style you have read so far is pretty much what you get throughout the novel. Good luck with these.

Duma Key kept me going because I was so anxious to find out what exactly was going on. In the end I have to say I was satisfied with the conclusion.

Lisey took a little longer to get going but it helped that I tried to identify with Lisey in that "what would I do if it were me and my husband" sort of way. In the end I was happy with it also.

I thought Duma Key was great. It started slow, but all those details show up later. And the ending is worth the wait. Lisey's Story is a love story with a King twist to it. I really enjoyed it as well. I think that Stephen King could publish his grocery list and it would sell. That man can take anything and make it his own. Probably why he's my favorite author.

I haven't finished Lisey's Story yet but I agree that you have to push through some of the beginning to get to a place where you care about what is happening. I'm finally at a point where I don't want to stop reading it. Up until now, I could read it or I could do some writing or maybe read something else for a bit. Now I just want to finish it and find out what it all means.

Duma Key I don't even have yet. I really want it though!

I read Lisey's story and almost quit about halfway through because it seemed to be dragging, but by the end I thought it was an okay story though not one of my favorites.

Duma Key was my first experience with an audio book and I think it made it much more enjoyable than if I had read it. Someone recommended that I give the audio book a try and I have to admit, I'm hooked. Since then I read a book and listen to an audio book while in my vehicle.

I really loved Duma Key, and still consider it one of King's best. You should try and stick with it for a while; the main character is really engrossing.

As for Lisey's Story, I started reading it yesterday (just finished Rose Madder, which was also great), so I still can't comment on it

With not a whole lot of free time, it took me a while to get into both of these books.

Duma Key picked up and flew. It is probably in my top 10 of King books.

Lisey's Story took much longer to get into, but by the end I was happy that I made the effort. I thought it was Classic King - huge on character development - just more focused. For me, it is Gerald's Game meets The Talisman.... although I hated Gerald's Game, so (again) it was tough going for a while.

I loved Duma Key--great character development. I agree that Lisey's Story is more of a love story, but I thought it was a great one! Duma Key is better, though.

I have to say that Duma Key probably had the happiest ending of a Stephen King book I've read

I loved Lisey's stroy, once I came to accept that it was a slowly spun out yarn. It did take a little while to adjust to the pace, but once I did I was fully engaged. It stayed with me more than Dumas Key, though I enjoyed that read.

Lisey was ok with some good suspenseful moments here and there but since Im usually more into the horror of King, it wasnt my favorite. Duma Key however happened to come at a time when I had recently moved to Minnesota (where the protagonist is from) and was very happy to be whisked away to the coast of florida for a week or so when I was reading the book. Also, I thought the characters were enjoyable and the story interesting as it unfolded near the end. Still tame of course as compared to early King but overall an enjoyable couple of books.

They are both definitely worth reading. That's one thing I've learned from reading King: it usually pays of to keep reading. The TommyKnockers was one that I almost put away when I was about half way through the book. But I kept reading, and it turned out to be one great story.

I liked them both, Duma more than Lisey. Duma reminds me a great deal of Bag of Bones, which is my all-time favorite. He's an artist rather than a writer, but he leaves his life after a trajedy strikes, ends up in a place with some weird supernatural activity going on, etc. Loved it, and it definitey gets better the deeper you get into it.

Finished Duma Key this morning and I liked it. I agree that getting through the first 300 pages was a bit slow and I'm not sure that because I'm a native Floridian from the Tampa Bay area made it easier to get through, but I will say the ending of the story is worth the ride, in my humble opinion.

Hmmm, I'm going against the majority here. I liked Lisey's Story a lot more than Duma Key. They are similar in the fact that they are both rather slow stories that focus more on character development than on horror. However, Lisey's Story had intriguing elements early on in the book that made me curious what they were about, that made me want to keep on reading. Duma Key took almost 300 pages before I got the slightest "bizarre" element to kick in. And although the ending was good, I felt like I had read 500 pages of a slowly advancing plot to get to 50 pages of riveting action, and then 50 pages of resolution (these are approximate numbers, I didn't check the actual pages).

But this is probably very personal. Most people seem to have preferred Duma, I didn't.

I haven't read either of those King books... yet. But I can tell you that in a lot of Stephen King's books the beginnings tend to be dragged out a lot, but they usually pick up pace. I suggest you stick with it, you'll probably be glad you did.
