Of the horror genre I like The Shining (The camera following the tricycle in the corridors always gives me goose bumps) and Misery (very true adaption of the book).
On the other hand I also like Stand By Me, Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, because of the interesting characters

I actually liked "Shawshank Redemption" the movie better than the short story (that's never happened before). I also thought Pet Cemetary rocked with that freaky kid, and Misery was great. I still can't watch that scene with Annie and the sledgehammer. Yuck!!!!

Misery is great. One of the best adaptations of a King book. But beware - this film has one of the biggest cringe moments in movie history. Just thinking about this scene makes me curl up in the fetal position (don't worry, you will know when it's coming).

Missy - Misery is a very good movie. The movie was exactly like the book. It was a really freaky movie, Annie is a total weirdo! You should definitely watch it. It's awesome.

The movie Misery is excellent. I was disappointed with one change in the movie though. In the book, she cuts off his left foot with an axe. That part was changed in the movie.

Stand By Me and The Shawshank Redemption. Both were perfectly cast and short enough so that major parts of the storyline didn't need to be cut as happens in a lot of his longer stuff.

Someone corrected me, Stand By Me is the name of the song they were singing, or the theme of the movie, but the movie is supposedly, The Body. But I know you are right, it is Stand By Me, but the other person insisted the title is The Body, but I told her that, that is the title in the book, but in the theaters its Stand By Me. Arggh....sorry. I just want to know which is which really.

The movie "Stand By Me" is based on the short story "The Body." While the movie was in production, is was called "The Body" keeping the original Stephen King title. It was changed once filming had wrapped up.

Has anybody seen "The Langoliers"? I watched this movie as a kid (10?) and I loved it even when I didn't know that it was based from Stephen King's short story "The Langoliers" (Four Past Midnight). I've often wondered where time goes after we "spend" it, and thinking that there are these monsters that eat the past was really -- well -- interesting and very unique. So, I guess that that movie is my most favorite movie.

I also like "Secret Window." Johnny Depp was so good in portraying the writer. But I was very disappointed with this movie's ending. It wasn't so faithful to the book's ending.

I've seen the Langoliers. I thought that, even though it was faithful to the story, it was too long. And the Langoliers looked like pacman.
I'd like to see what it would be like if they remade it today. The Langoliers should look like mini-galactus things, from Fantastic Four 2.

Misery was definitely a good one for bringing characters to life. Dolores Claiborne was good too just not the Jennifer Jason Leigh character. I thought she was terrible. If she hadn't spoken it would have been okay. ;)

The Green Mile is brilliant in its translation from page to screen. I really enjoy both.

The Stand. For an 8 hour movie, they really only botched a few minor details. I feel that out of all of the movies, this was by far the best followed from the book. I thought the casting was great (except for Harold Lauder, of course) and the music was perfect.

It was also a great movie. For whatever reason I always liked the TV movies better than the actual book based movies. I'm a purist when it comes to this stuff, so details for me here are key.

Interesting. The Dark Half. I haven't heard too many people say that they like it as a book let alone as a movie. I've read the book a few times but I've only seen bits and pieces of the movie.

      Stand By Me
The Mist - I loved the entire movie, until the very end. The ending sucked.
The Stand - neither the mini series or the movie did it justice. This is by far my favorite Stephen King book. I bought the extended edition and loved every page of it.

I think "the stand" is hands down his masterpiece. I havent read him in a while. the last book i read was his book "on writing". i love his characters and how real he keeps them. great with point of view and emotion. "keep it real" is one of his pieces of advice. both movie and book "the stand" is the best. There was a redo of the shining I didnt like at all. Glen has to be my fave character of all the books. i would love to have coffee with him, he's like mark twain with a more philosphical bent. excellent study of human nature, why choices are made and what attracts us to good and evil. he made the point that some followed flag because he got the trains running on time. do we forget the spiritual aspects of life in exchange for comfort? he is truly one of the great writers of our time and he seems like such a sweet guy when you hear him speak. he is someone i would like to share a pizza with and just talk all night.

I would also have to break it down further, drama-shawshank, apt pupil, stand by me and misery. Horror-Mist and though I don't believe it has held up well the original shining. TV-It! hands down the best tv film. On a slight tangent I personally hope that Frank Darabont never stops making king adaptations every bit as much as i hope that mick garris will never make another one.

hands down, king's version of the shining. it was true to the book and i absolutely detest it when one of his books is butchered........my family and friends HATE watching one of his movies with me as i am in a non-stop tirade of how 'that is NOT how he wrote it!!!' lol. i would have to say rose red would be a close second, but it would be tied with shawshank redemption and the green mile.........oh how i cried all through the green mile. one of my favorite things about any king movie is watching for his cameo. i wonder, has there been a few he has not played a part in or have i just not been looking hard enough?
