And I Quote...

I'm constantly dog-ear-ing pages of books because of a line that has the potential to be a wonderful quote. We need a place to share the quotes. Feel free to contribute a great line (or couple of sentences). Any genre, any age, anything G-rated. C'mon there are plenty with that restriction.

    I'm looking for a quote on sorrow . . .

that I ran across recently and cannot find now. It said something about what makes sorrow so hard is that we don't just feel the present sorrow, but that each present sorrow also contains all of our past sorrows and brings back our memories and feelings of those. It may have been from A Thousand Splendid Suns, but I'm not at all sure about that. Can anyone quote this for me and tell me who said it? Thank you!

I think it is from Shantaram. . I'm not sure. . But I remember reading something like that in the book. Unfortunately, I don't have the book with me now, so can't quote it for you. Probably you can leaf through Shantaram to look for it. :)

It's not the one you're looking for, but instead from a book that mentions Shantaram... but I thought I'd post it because it's beautiful.
From The Story of My Life by Mukund Ramrao Jayakar
"It would be appreciated only by those who have learnt to consume their sorrow in silent reverence."
I'm looking for the quote you wanted, because I'm sure I've read it.

I think it is from A Thousand Splendid Suns By Khalid Hosseini.. But it could have been Kite Runner. Both contain such moments of sorrow. Unfortunately, I own neither. I did read parts of Splendid Suns while sitting at a library waiting for a ride. I should have checked it out.
