  Absent Admin?

  Just wondering if anyone else has noticed the admin of this group hasn't dropped in for almost two years? How does one go about getting a different admin?

  You're right! Wierd. Definitely time for a change of admin. I'm not sure how you do it either. What about asking at the Shelfari Discussions and Questions Group?

  It's a group where any shelfari member can ask a question about how to use shelfari. I think they should be able to tell you how to replace the admin.

  Sure would be nice to have someone get rid of all the self promotion posts or at least group them together so they aren't cluttering up the real book discussion posts.

    I can ask the group leader in Who Doesn't Love A Classic? I think that was a group whose admin was absent and the current admin was able to gain control. I'll see what she did.

    I've seen a rash in a few other groups as well, maybe it's a migrational thing. I say we re-introduce wolves back to shelfari to cull the herd.

  I sent a note to the group leader, Llevinso, of Who Doesn't Love A Classic? and she replied thusly:

  "Yes it did have an absentee admin when I took over. If I recall correctly, all you need to do it email Shelfari about the problem and ask to be promoted to group admin. Then you will have the ability to promote a few other helpers if you choose and demote the absentee admin from their admin role. At least, that's what I did. I didn't remove the absentee admin completely from the group but there was no real point to keeping her listed as an admin when she hadn't been on Shelfari for over 6 months." -Llevinso

  The group has pretty much run itself - I would just like to see the self-promotions deleted or moved to their own thread.

    I am willing to email shelfari and become admin if someone else will join me as a co-admin. I have some free time right now, but in Sept I'll start to be really busy with work for a few months. I don't want to commit to this and do a poor job a few months later when I'm busy at work. With a partner admin I think it would be fine. What do you think Hope and Jerry?

    Go for it! I've tried to contact "Amanda" at the Shelfari Questions and Answers group, but haven't heard back from her. Maybe if you make contact as well, something will happen.

    I've already created a "Shameless Self-Promotion" thread, which I hope will cut down on the authors swooping in to recommend their own works.

    I'll stay on as a co-admin for a week or two and then demote myself. Shameless self-demotion??
