    Laugh Out Loud

    Save Changes Cancel
These kind of books are hard for me to find. Many books have humorous bits that make me smile, but few make me laugh aloud even on the bus. One that did was "In Flight Entertainment" by Elliot Hester. Care to share a book or 2 that made you laugh aloud?

PS: Please no Augusten Burroughs I don't find him funny. thx

For me Terry Pratchett usually does the trick. Also, I agree with Caipirinha, 'Dirty Job' definitely is a good shot as well.

Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns is from the perspective of a 14-year-old boy in early 19th-century Georgia. His grandmother dies at the beginning of the book, and not a month later, his grandfather has married a lovely 30-year-old outsider younger than both his grieving -- and shocked -- daughters. (That sounds like it would be kind of smutty, but it's not.) She wove in all kinds of stories from her father's childhood, and some of them are hysterical.

Bridget Jones books and the Shopaholic series are great if you want light chick lit.

What a cool topic! Adding titles to my list of books to check out.

I have got to suggest "It's A Book" by Lane Smith and "Flawed Dogs" by Berke Breathed.

    Enjoy.

Most books by Tom Robbins work for me (e.g. "Still Life with Woodpecker"). The non-fiction works of Bill Bryson get me laughing a lot (e.g. "A Walk in the Woods), though some note he is an acquired taste.

"Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man" by Fannie Flagg. I think it's the first book she wrote, and I was definitely laughing out loud!

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Austen has the best humor - sarcastic and slghtly mocking. Mr. Darcy is so socially awkward that you just want to give him a big bear hug!!! It's a great book!

The very first line lets you know right away what mood this book is written in.
