    Where?

Hey... I'm new to the Star Trek world - just got into it about a year ago when I stumbled across Star Trek Enterprise in a library book sale. I loved it immediately. My question is, where do you get your books? I never can find them in book stores, and my library doesn't have them. Let me know, and hopefully I can get a more thorough knowledge of all things Star Trek. I'd estimate I've read roughly half of the books by now. Live long and prosper... ;)

Any time i have a hard time finding a book in the library or a book store i turn to amazon.com. They have virtually everything and the stuff that's out of print usually has people selling them at pretty low prices.

Check any local used bookstores in your area, that's where I have found virtually all of the Star Trek books on my shelf. Another good bet is Ebay--I have seen several auctions for large lots (20+) of Star Trek books for really cheap. And as Christophe J says, Amazon is also a good bet as well.

I'm lucky in that my local library has a decently large collection. (Or at least, they did until people started not returning them.) After that, I tend to haunt used bookstores. Most of my collection, which includes almost all of the original series, came from those types of shops. Finally, like everyone else has been saying, Amazon Marketplace is a GREAT source of cheap books. You can usually get books for less than $5 each, and the majority of that is usually shipping and handling.

The trick to finding series books like this is knowing where in the bookstore to look. They usually aren't just in the SF section by author, Borders puts them (and other tie-in books) at the end of the SF shelves, with the Star Wars books and various series set in gaming worlds. Used bookstores usually do the same. On-line is easier, just search amazon by topic or favorite author.

I go to Amazon.co.uk too but also to Waterstones. There are usually book sites online that sell secondhand star trek books. That's where I found some of mine - in very good condition and at a good price.

I know how you feel MildlyEntertaining. My borders and barnes don't carry the books either. They have a great collection of Star Wars though ][ lol. So I buy online or in this used bookstore. I just got back from one and cleaned them out - I think I got 10-12 books.

I have had to rebuild my Star Trek library about 4 times in my life- once after the entire collection was lost following a flood, once after I had to sell them to save space in my new place (mental note: be cautious when a potential spouse is not into Star Trek), once when I discovered digital ebooks, and of course, the first one I collected.

Luckily for me, I live in an area where there are plenty of used bookstores- in particular, Half Price Books and Records- so it wasn't that hard to find the books- just a matter of finding good quality copies at reasonable prices.

haha I loved your comment, Ross, about when a potential spouse is not into Star Trek. That's awesome.

Oh, she came across as a fan of Trek- she had a few of the books and some other stuff. But, as she explained "It was a passing fad... I am into much more serious stuff like X-files and Buffy..." This should have been FLAG in the relationship, but love is blind...

(However, she would NEVER pass up a good Peter David Trek novel when it came out- we fought over the copy of Imzadi II: Triangle when it came out. I, of course, won the battle and had first crack at the book...)

But I have learned my lesson.....
