    Voting: And the country is . . . .

    Save Changes Cancel
So, here's the rules for voting: List your very favorite, then list your runner-up. I'll weight the votes and we'll see which one is most popular overall.

    The countries or regions:

The Middle East (including Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Kuwait, Bahrain, et cetera--and their historical equivalents)

    Spain/Portugal

    Brazil

    Nigeria/Africa

Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia and the Philippines (I'm not sure how much literature through the ages has been translated here, but I included everything in the general area. Since this is informal, we can always decide to narrow it down later if we're finding a lot of good material out of one country or region.)

    China

    India

    Germany

    France

Russia (fair warning.. the Green One won't be thrilled if we do Russia.. *grins*)

    My votes:

    **snickers** Russia

One of my 'literary resolutions' for this year actually is to read more Russian literature.

"Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia and the Philippines" can be lumped as Southeast Asia, although a few more countries will be added. The Philippines, in particular, has a tradition of literature in English, so there's no need to hunt for translations (which are few, if at all).

    My vote:

    Spain/Portugal

    The Middle East

If Southeast Asia is elected, I'm going to rely on you.. a lot.. as my knowledge of that area of the world is pretty dim :D

Erm, I know only my part of the world. The literature of the rest of the region is a mystery to me. :p

I'll leave the voting up for awhile, and once I feel like people have weighed in, I'll end the voting. ^_^ (Could I get any more vague? I guess that's my way of saying, it'll be up for a little bit.)

Right now, we have Spain/Portugal in the lead with China, The Middle East, and Southeast Asia vying for second place.

Until the voting closes, you're also allowed to change your votes. It looks like, so far, that one of these will likely win, but if you want to change your vote(s) to tip in favor of one or the other, especially if you voted for something not on the short list, please feel free to do so. ^_^

(Keeping in mind, you can only vote for each country once--your top vote is worth more than your #2 pick!)

I've been away on vacation, and while I did take my laptop, it was mostly used to decide where to eat and when to take an umbrella! I came back to find half the groups I belong to voting on something. I'm trying to get caught up.

Why is it just Brazil, and not South America?

      Hiya, Darilyn ^_^ and welcome!

We've already done a lot of Central/South American lit as both group and individual reads, so we're not going to re-dip into the whole of South America . . . Brazil is one of the countries we haven't touched on much and was specifically nominated, so we left that in as an exception. (That's also the reason that Japan isn't on the list; a lot of us have already been reading Japanese literature for years, and it's less fun as a group to go over the same territory again.)
