Help! Which series is your personal favorite?

I am new to this genre of books. I have only read the Tate Hallaway Garnet Lacey series and am currently reading Julie Kenner Kate Conner series. I usually only read Stephen King or Anne Rice. But I have been drawn to the dark side. I don't usually like fluffy romance stuff, but I like books with vampires + romance. Help me choose my next series of books. I don't know where to start!

i love Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake and Merry Gentry series, but i would have to say that Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter series is my personal favorite. It combines romance+vampires, which i love, but she also add Greek Mythology to her works which makes them very erotic and so good to read.

I have to second or third the mentions of Anita Blake and also the Southern Vampire series by charlaine harris. I also love her Harper Connelly series, (though it is about a girl who can sense dead people, not vampires).
I also love love the Retrievers series by Laura Anne Gilman, though it is technically vampire-less, I think in the world she created they do exist. It's a great series about a people who harness electricity and use it for magic. Excellent character, writing, and good, meaty stories.
Thinking about starting the Jennifer Rardin Jaz Parks series... can anyone tell me if it's any good before I get hooked on yet another series?

The books mentioned are really good. If you have not tried the series by Nalini Singh please do. It is a shapeshifter series though with no vampires but it is excellent.

I think at the moment my favorite series is the Southern Vampire novels by Charlaine Harris. I love humor in my paranormal romance :)
Though I must admit, I haven't had a chance to read the two latest editions to the series. I hope they're as engaging as the previous novels.

So far you all have listed quite a few of my favorite series, but I wanted to
throw in Monere: Children of the Moon Series by Sunny. It's a very good vampire series and I recommend it to anyone who likes Hamilton and Kenyon etc. The first book in the series is Mona Lisa Awakening.
    ~Enjoy~
    ~Purehellion
    From Publishers Weekly
Once readers get past the silly premise of Sunny's sizzling debut—a humanoid race called the Monère came to Earth from the moon 4,000 years ago—they'll find much to like in this intrigue-filled erotic paranormal. The "children of the moon" are ruled by "Queens," rare females whose ability to pull down the moon's rays allows them to heal rapidly and live 300 years. Gorgeous, shape-changing males protect, serve and have sex with the often ruthless Queens, who sometimes cruelly abuse them. After treating one of these males, Gryphon, at Manhattan's St. Vincent's Hospital one night, 21-year-old ER nurse Lisa discovers she's not only a part-human Monère herself but also the first "Mixed Blood" Queen, Mona Lisa. Her human blood makes her impervious to sunlight and silver—the banes of the Monère—and her latent powers pose a threat to the nastier Queens, who want to destroy her. Mona Lisa shares many traits with Laurell K. Hamilton's heroines, including having lots of hot sex for good causes, but mercifully without their kvetching and self-doubt. (Sept.)

OMG! I can't believe I have never heard of this series, either! I love Laurell K. Hamilton, and this sounds like it is right up my alley! Thanks, so much! I am off to order them right this moment! LOL! I just ordered $84.00 worth of books yesterday! I need to stay off of here for a while, because every time someone mentions an excellent book or series that I haven't read yet, I just have to have them! :-)

Okay, I just had to come back and let you know that I just ordered the first 3 books in this Monere series, plus the 2 anthologies associated with it, and pre-ordered the 4th in the series that is not due until January, 2009. I'm blaming it all on you if my husband says anything about me ordering so many books this week! LOL!

Hi Deborah, be sure to read them in order, with the anthologies in between. The story just continues. But if you loved LKH, you might be a little disappointed, because of the many similarities. I still prefer LKH.
