Hi, I have 3 children and my husband and I farm in South Central, KS. I also work as a paraeducator in the high school. I have always loved to read and will read almost anything! I love most all subjects and genres. If it's good- let me at it! I don't read as much as I used to as having 3 children all involved in sports and 4-H keeps me very busy. One of my favorite things is the Kindle my husband bought me for Christmas 2 years ago since it allows me to take a book with me all the time for reading whenever I am waiting on a child or my husband.
Welcome!!! Please feel free to jump in and participate in games and threads. As one of the admins we try to keep things fun around here!!!

I'm Shawna, and I'm baaaaaaack! After being away from Shelfari while finishing my BA, I am finally done and back to leisurely reading! I am so excited! So, the abbreviated version of my intro is such:I'm a Navy wife & pet parent. I have a BA in Language and Lit, but I still don't know what the heck I'm going to do with my life. I love to read just about anything except romance or fantasy.
welcome back Shawna!
yes! welcome back!
Thanks, ladies...it's awesome to be back!
Welcome, Shawna. I totally understand what being back in school does to your free time. Congratulations on your BA!
I see I joined Shelfari some years ago, and somehow fell away. It is interesting to pick up the threads again, though at the moment it isn't loading properly, no pics at all. Look forward to catching up with everything that is going on.
Welcome Jandante, we are a fun & interesting group!
Welcome Jandante, hope you enjoy the group! We have fun!
Welcome to our group!
Thankyou, yes this one does appear to be a great group!
By the way, I only see the square outline where avatars and book covers etc should be... is that how you are seeing things at present?
No I am actually seeing the avatars and book covers. Maybe if you shut down your computer and turn it back on. I'm not computer savy but perhaps someone can help you.
Thanks for your help, yes everything is fine today.Jan B
Hi I'm Katie, or Kate. I've been absentee for quite awhile so hi again to everybody I know and people I don't know yet. Hoping to get back into the swing of things reading wise but having a hard time finding something to hold my attention.
I am 34, as of today, work for the prosecutors office, live with my boyfriend, no pets but love dogs. That's about it I guess. :-)
Nice to have you back Katie!!
So glad to see you back DG! We missed you around here!
Hi, Katie! Nice to see you back! (And happy birthday!)

Hi, I'm Carly. I am a teacher-librarian working in an elementary school so my life is filled with books (mostly picture books!). I spend a lot of time reading YA titles so I can recommend books to our middle school kids and hopefully get them interested in reading. I like to read lots of different genres. I'm also crazy about cats but I'm not a crazy cat lady!! I have a wonderful husband and 3 teenage boys.
you're love for cats will fit you in right away! Also we have a few fellow teachers and librarians here. So Welcome!
Oh yes, we have cat ladies, teachers & librarians amongst us! Welcome.
Carly already knows I fit two of those categories! :-) Hi, Carly!
So too do I!
Me, too! Hi Carly! I'm a teacher and a cat lover. I read like a librarian so I can make recommendations to my students as well. I have to be careful because I teach gifted kids. Intellectually they are on a middle school reading level, emotionally they're not. It makes it hard sometimes to fit them with appropriate books. But it sure is fun trying.
Welcome! I love a good YA book so I hope you have some good ones to read. I too love cats. Yours are awfully cute.
Another cat lover here and I have two who are brother and sister. Lots of great books discussed here. Welcome and enjoy!
I started reading y/a in addition to my other reading in order to see what my teens were reading, so I also read a fair bit of it. I like cats, but am allergic to them--good thing dander doesn't move via the internet :).
I read some YA, but mostly it is too whiny & dramatic for me...
You have to find the right y/a to avoid the whiney stuff; I often just read the ones my daughters say are particularly good or the more literary ones. I don't mind some of the drama, but I couldn't make a steady diet of y/a. One I read last year that was released as a y/a in NZ where it was written but not here that is neither of those is Genesis by Bernard Beckett. It's written much like a Socractic dialogue, is very philosophical (deals with what is consciousness) but is also considered scifi, and technically it is--I enjoyed reading Socratic dialogues (one of my quirks, I guess, although I can't say I agreed with much of it) so that made it more enjoyable for me.
Side note...i read the title of this discussion and instantly starting singing Eminem.
lol glad I'm not the only one :)
I have no idea what you are referring to
Auntie, he's a rapper from Detroit and back in the late 90's early 00's he had a song that was called My Name is.
OIC....... not really, but it doesn't matter! LOL!
I know who he is, but don't know any of his songs, so Nanuuq, I didn't get it, either! (Though I guess it must have to do with one of his songs.)
Well, I go a little further back than the double M. Many, many years ago there was man named Bill Dana who appeared on the Ed Sullivan show and he would start off his character saying "My name is Jose Jimenez." Gosh, the memories!
I remember him.....
And that's a little too far back for me! :-)
I remember Bill Dana! I can just see him, too!! Thanks for reviving that memory, Foggy. Now if you can revive some of the more recent stuff................
Hello Ya' All! My name is Taylor and I am going to school to be a Physical Therapist.I have two kids Iliana and Aaron and my lovely husband Josh.

Welcome to the group.
Hello and welcome!
I am a person and I have a life. :D
Well... we hope that you will enjoy the chapter(s) of your life you spend here w/ us. (Pun intended)
That is amazing. I am a person and have a life too! Welcome to the group. Looking forward to your comments on books!
Samesies on the being a person....but the life thing is a different story. My life consists of reading and working. Not such a bad life.
hi...pleased to be here. Can't say much about myself or it would sound like spam *winks at Auntie* but I can say I have been addicted to books since I first read Dick and Jane (Run, Spot, run!)...Since learning that those squiggles on the paper with the pretty pictures were actually words telling a story, reading became my obsession for half a century, so far.
Welcome Susan, and thank-you for participating in our reviews section.... I just might keep you! LOL!
I recently found & purchased a copy of "The White House" reader... Dick, Jane, Spot & Susan!
Hi I'm Dj, and i've been reading since I was 3 yrs old. My mom use to sit and read with me and spell words and so my love of books grew and grew. I also grew up seeing my mom reading and doing crossword puzzles and also my older sister. So it just seemed natural to always have a book around. Today I still read everywhere, at the bus stop, on the bus, in the line at the check out counter, you name it.........
Welcome, happy to have another avid reader join our group!
Hi I'm Emily.I read anything Fiction, Science Fiction, Historical Fiction, and sometimes even Non-Fiction (if forced too). I read anytime I have the time more in the summer than during the school year. I am currently reading a fiction book. My favorite book series is The Caster Chronicles by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. My favorite book at the moment is The Host by Stephanie Meyer. I am a Potterhead. I love Star Trek and found a Star Trek book that I am nearly through now.
Hello Emily: Welcome to book chat.
We have lots of fun & even more lots of good people here!
Hello and Welcome!!
Glad to meet you! Enjoy the group.
Hi everyone! My name is Raquel. I bought a nook a little over a month ago and have been running through e-books ever since. I get emails daily with free book suggestions and I just recently started trying to read the paperbacks stacked on my desk. I just finished Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl and have started Beautiful Darkness. I'm really enjoying the series. While I'm at work, I try to sneak and read The Execution by Sharon Cramer. Anyway I'm glad to be here and I hope to be a little more social instead of a hermit locked in with her books. :D
Hi Raquel!Welcome aboard
Welcome: Hope you enjoy our group!
Hi Raquel! Welcome.
Hi there! Try the June and July TBR Challenge! You might win more books for your TBR shelf!
Ah SHAMELESS Promoter! LOL!
It's true, you can win prizes; I won the last Amazon gift certificate (names out of a randomizer) as I was one of the top 3 scorers. Plus, it's a lot of fun.
Hello all. My name is Randy. The types of books I like to read the most are spy novels and detective novels. A couple of my favorite books are "The Eye of the Needle" by Ken Follett and "The Tenderness of Wolves" by Stef Penney. I tend to get my recommendations from the Washington Post.
Hi Randy...welcome in
Hi Randy. Welcome.
Hi my name is Gayle, and Auntie Nan is the one who invited me. I read a really eclectic book list, primarily historical fiction, but I like everything from SF to mysteries. All depends on the day. I am retired and I live with my hubby, a dog, and 2 cats, in the beautiful foothills of the Sierra Nevada, in Central California. I am 25 miles south of Yosemite. I have been retired since 2002, and am a recent graduate of CalStateUniv Fresno where I got my BA in History. On to CSU San Jose for a MA in Library Sciences, which I will do on-line as the school is 400 miles from me, a really long commute.
Hi, Gayle! Nice to see you here! :-)
Hi Gayle! Welcome.
Gayle..... not to be a snob or anything: They call it: MLIS..... I say this because I finished mine in 2007!
Also I enjoyed the online classes..... I found them easier (as I work full-time)... I don't particularly like working at a physical classroom pace (or even being in one).... Being able to work on my own schedule (12:00-2:00 am & Sundays) was really wonderful for me. Also, I was able to work in my p.j.s & drink wine as I pleased!
Only prob for me will be the cost, so I have an MLIS fund started. The classes are $350 per unit and each class is 3 units, soo . . . . Plus the cost of applying to the univ, transcripts and hoping I'm accepted. Probably a couple of years down the road at this point.
Question: has anybody or does anybody read Stephen Lawhead's books??
