    Outlander

I am currently hooked on Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" series. Has anyone else read them. I would love to hear what you think of them.

I read the first one a long time ago, and then never moved on- don't know why - I loved the book.

I'm also a fan of Sara Donati who writes in a similar style, though not a time travel series. Her series starts with Into the Wilderness and I love it.

Those books (Sara Donati's) are wonderful! I've found a third that she'd written while I wasn't looking (easy to do) and there's a fourth still waiting for me. Her writing style is perfect. Needless to say, the Outlander series is a keeper on my shelves, too.

Marie - Her latest book will be out this winter, I believe I read that it will be the end of the series. There are 6 books and this is the order:

      Into the Wilderness
      Dawn on a Distant Shore
      Lake in the Clouds
      Fire Along the Sky
      The Queen of Swords
      The Endless Forest

I read The Queen of Swords out of order and kind of wish I hadn't. I think it was for a Challenge. I have to find Fire Along the Sky next, but the used bookstore I frequent didn't have it. Eventually. And thank you for the heads-up about her next book

I've read the first five in the series and I love them! The characters and the story are so detailed. I found myself thinking about Jaime and Claire long after I finished that first book. I'm looking forward to reading the next two sometime soon.

I read them all and love them. Though I didn't like An Echo in the Bone as well as some of the others.

Wow, it's great to hear that you have all enjoyed the books as much as I am enjoying them. After reading the Time Travelers Wife, I was wondering if these would be similar. I like them so much better though because the characters aren't constantly jumping through time. It makes these books much easier to follow. The love story is very endearing too.

I, like Kairilily find myself thinking about the characters all of the time. If, for whatever reason, I don't get a chance to read for a day or two, I miss Claire and Jaime terribly! I am reading the the fifth book (The Fiery Cross) right now and I inadvertently order the hardcover edition from the library. At 979 pages, it weighs about 3 1/2 lbs. (The shortest book so far was 850 pages) I find myself getting tired just holding up the book after a while. I have re-requested it in paperback.

The first book was wonderful, but full of so much human suffering that I found it hard to read at times. The second (Echo in the Bone) was the toughest to get through, but worth the read to get to Voyager which was probably my favorite so far. Reading these books makes me very happy to be living in this century!

Kim B, i'm wondering if you missed a book in that series. The second one, after Outlander, was Dragonfly in Amber - then Voyager.

I sympathize with you about that hardcover's size and weight; I just took A White House Diary (Lady Bird Johnson) from the library and it's that big, that heavy. Hard to hold. I don't want to take it to bed to read (I do that with others) because of that weight and size. But it's giving me a chance to read smaller books in bed, that larger one during the day or evening.

My collection of the first five books is now paperback, although I read them first from the library in hardcover - so big and heavy. Then my kids gave me A Breath of Snow & Ashes in hardcover, so I have that BIG one. I want to read Echo in the Bone but hesitate because it will be so huge. I've seen it at the bookstores and know.

No, I didn't miss one, I just typed it in wrong. Thanks Marie for clearing that up for anyone else that might be interested in reading them.

I've read them all, over and over, except for the most recent one which didn't sit well with me. If you find yourself missing Jaime and Claire, try listening to them. Davina Porter does an amazing job with voices and accents.

I read my first Outlander last month and was impressed at how many pages the author could keep the storyline going. Looking forward to reading book 2 during Thanksgiving to Jan. 1st I plan on it being the series I read.

Having a hard time getting going at the beginning. I know Jaime and Claire will fall in love, right? It seems so obvious....I'm waiting for the twists, but having trouble with time travel since I don't believe in the supernateral.
