    Hi my name is...

I thought this would be a good place to introduce ourselves and get to know a bit about each other.

Hi I'm Lorin. I live on the lovely NJ Shore, but am still a New Yorker at heart. Other than reading, I like to be a beach bum, travel with my husband, cook and shop for shoes with the girls ( yes I have a problem ; )) I hope to some day win the lottery and live a life of leisure!

I'm Marie T., and I love Shelfari; the sites are so interesting. I'm a two-stater, being a snowbird from Massachusetts to Florida (going in late October), a great-grandmother of 9, grandmother of 10 and a mother of six great people.

      Hello Marie!
So nice to meet you! I bet Massachusetts is just something to behold. I've always wanted to visit--or maybe never leave...ha ha. What part of Florida do you go to? I bet it's quite the change for you and much, much warmer! (ha ha)
WOWeeee, Great-Grandmother of 9 and Grandmother of 10---you must be so darn proud! My hat is off to you :) Sounds like you have one fantastic family.
It's great to meet you and I look forward to getting to know you better :)

We now live in Taunton, about 30 miles south of Boston. But for my unmarried life, until 21, I lived nearer to Boston and Lowell, in Everett. So I know where that is, and have visited there a few times in my "youth". Love the South Shore, though. Friends and I had a plan to visit San Antonio this year but that fell through; hope to do it some other time. We hear it's a beautiful city and that River Walk (is that the right name?) is lovely.

Yes, it's large. Christmas is wonderful, though - the only day when I love the noise - and believe me, it's noisy. They all come to this house (my son's) and stuff goes on until 10 pm or so!

I go to the central part of Florida; right in the center, an hour north of Mickey Mouse. Love it, a totally different way of life; lots of people my age to interact with. Here in MA, I'm with family - but they all work all day, have their own lives, etc. Although I do see them it's different from what I'd do if I had my druthers.

Hi, Mary T, I am Eleni (Ellen)T, it seems we have the same initial for our last name. I live in Athens Greece and like you I move to Peloponesse by the sea during summer. I am a writer, but unfortunatelly all my books, except one which is been translated into German, are published in Greece in Greek. I have lived for some time in the U.S and have traveled to Boston. I am married for almost 50 years, have two daughters and no grandchildren.. I envy you having such a big family. God bless you.

Hi, Eleni - thanks for your note. Greece! Wow - so far away. Of course, on the computer distance seems to disappear. But those romantic names: Peloponesse, Athens. What a different life you must live. And you're an author - that's where MY envy comes in! Next life, I think. LOL.

    Hello Lorin!
Nice to meet you and thank you so much for the kind email earlier :) I really appreciate the warm welcome!
I haven't been a part of any kind of group, except Hospice (currently on hiatus-needed a break), and I'm greatly impressed with this group, the people and it just generally seems like something I would really enjoy. If it's OK, I'm talking about it on my silly blog...ha ha.

I am a native Nevadan, originally being born and raised in Reno, but also lived in S. Lake Tahoe for over 10 years. Man I miss the it. The BEAUTY of it is hard to put into words! But Lake Tahoe is now for the rich and the rich only--go figure. I've been married for 10 years coming this Nov. 18, but together for 12 years. We now live in 'Sin City' and have been here since March of 2003. With every fiber of my being, I absolutely and with no doubt detest living here! But hubby's work brought us here and it's part of the marriage contract for me to follow (lol), I had to---for now. But sometimes contracts are made to be broken...hint, hint. I will say that I've met some super people here and if it wasn't for my books, crafts, my dog (learning to quilt and sew, crochet, garden and walk my Rottweiler) I would probably go nutso! Also my new friend online make life so much better and interesting......I love it.
I have a beautiful 8 1/2 year old Rottweiler named Yager (pronounced like Chuck Yager) who is the love of my life! He is a BIG boy weighing in at 135 lbs, but not fat....just big. We should have named him tank...ha ha. In Feb. of this year I lost my beloved Hershey to cancer, he was 12. That boy was my SON, no doubt about it---a Rottweiler too. Both of my dogs are rescued. :))

OK, I've bored you enough about me. Except for one thing: it's always been my dream to live on the east coast or even Michigan. I LOVE Michigan--Grand Haven, Holland, Benton Harbor or any other of those areas. I've been researching them for years. Upstate New York or Maine are also my dreams/fantasies! Cold and harsh weather doesn't faze me, but the heat just kills me!

I'm glad to be a part of this group and look forward to discovering new books, everyones different tastes and opinions on books and just getting to know you all :)

Thanks so much for having me!

Howdy everyone! My husband and I live outside San Antonio, TX and are the parents of two lovely daughters. Daughter #1 is a teacher, married and the mother of our 3 year old grandson. Daughter #2 is single, in the Air Force as a bomb-dog handler (don't get me started!), currently stationed in Korea. I have a degree in education but quickly found that teaching is not for me so I now work in our local library, which I absolutely love. We are currently moving our library into a brand-new building (3 x the size of the old one) and will be opening our doors to the public this Saturday and boy has it ever been a lot of work! I love to read and I love Shelfair and all of the great friends I've made here.

Hi i'm Kirsty i'm from the UK (England) aside from reading I love baking with my gran and playing on the wii with my little brother I also enjoy day trips to the bronte country (not actualy sure what the place is called thats just what my mums always called it, its the place where the Bronte sisters grew up and wrote their novels). I'm 18 but everyone says I act like i'm 80 (even my grandparents say it to me) because I prefer to stay in and read while my friends are out getting drunk, to be honest though I dont mind what they call me getting drunk is okay on special occasions I guess but its just not for me. I live with my mum, my stepdad and my little brother and sister. I work full time as an Administor for a small recruitment agency and i'm studying towards my NVQ Level 3 in Administration. I hope one day to become a journalist or an author as i'm really passionate about writting and if i'm not reading i'm writting. I havnt always been an avid reader but I went through some pretty dark times thats when i picked up the first book i became passionate about (Jane Eyre) since then i've become one of these people that carries a book with me everywhere they go I actualy do feel naked or like a part of me is missing if I leave one at home. Reading is my perfect escape and I think i'd be totaly lost without it
I'm pretty new to this site, I only joined today, i'm hoping to meet some new people that are just as passionate about reading as I am, I hope to make lots of new friends.

Where outside of Boston, Bunnitaz? I've seen your name here since I first began last August. I love bookmarks, too, but have zeroed in on the magnetic ones for a couple of years now. Anywhere I travel (and there've been a few places), I try to find one. I should definitely save them but instead I use them - so now the ones I use often have that well-worn look!

I just knew that I was not the only person who looks for bookmarks everywhere she goes. Some of mine are so old and battered but I have such fond memories of the time spent at that place so I just keep using them. Have started to cover any that I get that are not plastic coated, to try to keep the damage to a minimum (Clear contact paper is a great invention, I use it to cover all my paper back books, I can't stand to have the covers ripped or torn after spending money for them (they are not cheap!!). I also hate to have the pages dog eared, hence my love of bookmarks. I could have costlier habits (smoking or drinking) a book and a new book mark are cheaper than either of those, so I feel good!!

Hi I'm Candice. I'm from Southwest Louisiana, and I'm currently working as a case manager for an AIDS Service organization. I have a master's degree in public relations, and I'm considering going back for a degree in Public Health. My dream would be to work for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. After a summer spent working in Zambia, Africa, I have been itching to go back.

I have loved to read since long before I could read on my own. I would make my parents read to me often. As soon as I was old enough, I started reading all by my lonesome. My favorite books were vampire books (long before it was so trendy and romantic). I'm a pretty eclectic person. I'm an animal love, and currently share my living quarters with my cat Jamie. He doesn't like for me to read because that means my attention is diverted from him. I'm a hard core music fan. I love to find new bands and go to live shows. I look forward to getting to know you all better.

I'm Jan and am now a substitute for Special Education assistants at the school where I worked for 13 years. I'm a lifelong Texan and have been living in the Central Texas area most of my life.
Besides reading, I enjoy scrapbooking and am trying to get into gardening. I find I'm much better at container flowers than flower beds. :) I also love music and enjoy listening to showtunes, standards, 60's/70's rock classics, and jazz.
I am married with 2 children. Our daughter is married, teaches middle school English, and also has a love for reading. Our son is a five year college senior and will be graduating in May 2010. He is a vocal performance major and is going into opera.
I love reading mysteries, the cozy kind and the "not so cozy, but not too violent" mysteries, as well as Southern fiction and books about friendships among women.
I've enjoyed being a part of Shelfari and this particular group is by far my favorite.

Hi, I'm Christy! I have three children: my son Doug is 18 and leaving for college on Friday (my birthday waaah!). He's going to major in video production at UW-Superior. My daughter Molly is 16 is rarely ever home! Between work, cheerleading, student council, and jazz choir, she is always busy, but she thrives on it! My baby girl is Mia, who is six and starting first grade next week. The older two kids are both big readers. I try to find books I think they will like, and I usually succeed. I hooked him on the Harry Dresden series and introduced her to Twilight. Mia loves being read to, and I hope that she loves it as much as they do.

I live in northeastern Wisconsin, about 40 minutes north of Green Bay, and yes I am furious at Brett Favre. I have a wonderful husband, Jesse, who listens to audiobooks I order him from the library. He's going to school full-time to get his bachelor's degree in business.

I work part time at the local hospital as the Pastoral Care Coordinator, I job I couldn't love any more than I do! It's incredibly fulfilling. My full-time unpaid job is reviewing books on my blog. I am never without a book!

Just a quick side note. I'm holding a contest to celebrate my birthday this week on my blog for a stack of books. Some of my fellow PBTers have already signed up. If you are interested, go here: http://tiny.cc/d8cph

I'm really enjoying the convivial atmosphere here. The 7 things questionnaire was fantastic, what a wonderful way to get to know each other!

Hello I am Dana but most people call me Zippy
I live in Hobbs, New Mexico. I have two kids, four cats and been married 23 years. My oldest, a girl, is a Senior in High School and my youngest,a boy, is in 7th grade. Both of them LOVE to read. My hubby does so much reading at work that he does not feel like reading for pleasure, such a shame. When he does read he reads horror books.

When I am not reading, dealing with kids or cleaning house, I love working with my hands. I scrapbook, quill, do metal art and work with wood. I am just stating to make full sizes quits but have made tons of small quilted items.

haha! I don't carry multiple tubes of lip balm with me, but I have them placed in strategic locations instead! Sounds much like Tanya. One by my computer here at home, one by my computer at work, two in the living room, depending where I'm sitting to watch tv, plus one in my jacket pocket so it's with me at all times!

One is from The Body Shop and one is Burt's Bees. One is from Ten Thousand Villages, one is Watkins, and the other was one that was given to me - they got it free in a promotion. I try to always buy ones that weren't tested on animals.

I'm Jennifer. I live in upstate SC with my husband and my identical twin girls. The girls turned five in June and just started kindergarten last week. I work full time for a company that makes sports novelty products. I've been with them twelve years in September and I can honestly say that I love my job. (I do now anyway...wasn't always so.)

Unfortunately, my husband is not a reader. I've kind of got him started reading a graphic novel here and there, but that's about it. My girls love when I read to them and can't wait until they can read themselves. Hopefully soon...

Unfortunately, I don't own any to loan him, and I can't imagine him going to get a library card. So, I'm not sure this is going to work! ;-) I am debating about buying the Fables series though. Not sure that would be the best one for him to start with, though. And, it's soooo expensive to catch up on buying all 12 volumes!!!!

So you must be on a parallel with Ocala, just about. I just hope we have a better winter this time than last! Has the summer been awfully hot? I really haven't kept track much this summer; ours was so terrible, so much rain until August.

    Jaede

    Hello everyone:

My name is Sabrina, but since college most everyone has called me Jaede, hence the username here.

I currently live in Ohio with my husband, 8 year-old son, and two crazy cats. (We are thinking of adding a dog to the mix soon, but we'll see.) Both my husband and I work at a university (different ones). I teach writing and he works in the distance learning program training faculty members.

We are avid readers and so is our son. I'll read just about anything; my husband, on the other hand, reads mostly science-fiction and fantasy. I'll occasionally get him to branch out to other genres, but I seem to feed his sci-fi and fantasy addiction by picking up interesting looking ones for him when I'm browsing bookstores or if I see something on paperbackswap. My son is just like his dad and really likes anything sci-fi and fantasy, but especially Star Wars.

You and your husband sound really familiar......we seem to be a lot alike. My husband loves Sci-fi and I love just about anything. SCi-fi is all I can get the man to read. He has read the Harry Potter Series, The Eragon Series, and some of the Star Wars series. I am trying to find something else that would keep his interest in the Sci-Fi genre to keep him off his X-box for awhile. Does you husband have ideas? Brian is a huge Farscape fan if that helps in any way. Its funny because he actually watchs that while I read on Saturdays.

I noticed you were talking about pets. We also have a cat (long haired pastel tortiseshell calico) named Chloe and Maggie our chocolate lab. Maggie tends to be hard on my books. She made muddy paw prints on New Moon when I was laying out tanning one day. LOL Oh well.

I look forward to hearing about any suggestions you may have.

Hey everyone! I'm Tanya. I'm 26 and from Ohio. I love animals and I actually work as a zookeeper with a variety of animals. The bird in my pic is an eastern screech owl that I take care of. I've always been an avid reader and find it to be one of the best ways for me to unwind and relax. I almost always have a book with me just in case. My favorite genre is mystery, but thanks to Shelfari and all the wonderful reviews from other members, I am starting to branch out and try other authors.

Besides reading, I also love to crochet and am learning to knit. I also enjoy playing the longer, more complicated board games with my best friends.

    Hi all!

I'm Hope. I'm from Iowa, where I live with my husband and two children. My daughter is a sophomore at Iowa State and my son is a junior in high school. We have an acreage and share it with 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 pygmy goats, chickens, pheasants, homing pigeons, a quaker parrot, and a rabbit. I like the mammals; my husband likes the birds.

I am a middle school library media specialist/teacher librarian/technology goddess. My building serves 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. I wear many hats at work, though, besides library and technology.

I love to read and to share that with others. I read almost any genre and have a list of books a mile long that I want to get to someday. I loved the "7 things" thread that had been going on earlier. I also like to collect pre-1950's lunch tins and purses. We also play cribbage almost every night - and get quite competative about it!

I am finally spending a few minutes with the computer now that the grandchildren have gone back to school, I have four (3 boys 1 girl) two started Kindergarten and the other two are in pre-school two days a week. Now that summer is over weekends are going to be busy for us but weekdays will be spent reading ( I am lucky to be able to stay home and not work outside the home) So this grandmother is going to indulge herself with a favorite book and comfy recliner and a cup of tea or coffee ( depends on my mood) my plans for spending a morning most days, of course I will still make time to visit my girlfriends and have lunch, always combine that with a stop at the book store, so I can't give that up!!! Oh by the way...I am forgetting my manners...my name is Gayle (G.G. to my grandkids) and I love, love, love to read, usually I am not without a book in my hands or a few in my tote bag that goes everywhere with me. I don't like to get caught without the printed word ready to be read. I live in Pennsylvania and look forward to winter (only because I want to stay inside and read and the cold weather (SNOW) gives me added incentive to do that) I like to read books about Tudor England and Royalty of other Countries. But I will try any genre at least once, that is the only way to be sure of what I like and dislike. My book shelves are stuffed to overflowing and still I want more!! to that end I "SWAP" books on the PaperbackSwap.com site, to help keep costs down but that does not keep me out of Barnes and Noble, my favorite place to be. Everytime I go out I come back with a bag ( it is either for the grandchildren or myself) so I know my husband would like it if I stayed home all that time!

Did I mention I always need help deciding which book to pick for the month. I am a Medical transcriptionist during the day and plan to go back to school soon for nursing. I have always used reading as a stress reliever and take my mind off things. I enjoy reading just about everything (except maybe self-help books).....I will try anything once. Currently I am reading The Host and The Time Travelers Wife.

Hi, I am Meredith and my passion from reading stemmed from wandering into a Borders when I was out of a job about 8 years ago and walking into the mystery section and picking up A IS FOR ALIBI by Sue Grafton and ONE FOR THE MONEY by Janet Evanovich, while Evanovich and Plum will forever be the reason I love to read, my tastes have definitely grown and changed. I swore I would never read romances, yes I was one of *those* people. Then I met the MacGregors by Nora Roberts and I was hooked ever since, then came my passion for all the things that go bump in the night and here I stand a well rounded reader who can never decide what to read next with a mountain of a TBR and a boyfriend who just shakes his head and reads my books too.

I live in Milwaukee WI, and I just found out that Shelfari has groups. This is the first one I've joined. Hope to get to know you all better soon.

I'm going to be retiring in mid-January and it's a huge step! My favorite genre is mystery, thriller, and suspense but I will really read just about anything especially since I started with Shelfari in April 08. My other hobbies include counted cross-stitch, gardening and now bicycling with my recumbent trike on the wonderful trails (mostly rails-to-trails) located all over Florida. When I retire I plan to start working on my "bucket" list and delve even deeper into my hobbies.

Hi: I am Auntie Nanuuq... as in "Nanook of the North"; aka: Bud's Mom, The Liberry Lady, or Kimberly (but don't be telling that to too many people).

I reside at the base of the Angeles National Forest (as in The "Station Fire") and live with my two four-legged furry purry children: Aristophanes (Bud) & Zeinab.

I have worked in a library since I was 19 years old...I am now 55...so that's like 35 years! I still cannot retire, as I am not old enough.

I love to read, laugh, eat good food, massage (spa days), Inipi, See's candy, road trips, cook for my friends & family, visit & photograph lighthouses.....

I am (besides a Liberryan); an Ordained Minister, Spiritual Counselor, Healer Practitioner & Artist. I do my best to be a comedienne most of the time.

I LOVE Shelfari and most the people in my groups., because I am not forced to read what everyone else is reading and I can freely add my "out-of-the-box" comments without fear of being blackballed completely. I am admin. of a Historical Fiction group that is near dead!

Hi! I'm Cindy, and I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I see so many familiar faces here!

Anyway, I am a librarian and a "mom" to two cats. My boys, Angel and Io. Both adopted from the local Humane Society. Io was just over 1 year old when we adopted him (it's no longer "we", but at the time is was). He had been found in the parking lot of a bar, with another cat and a litter box, so obviously they were dumped there. :-( He's such a sweetheart! He is black and white (tuxedo), and currently 6 years old. Often my avatar is my cats; I'll probably change back to that soon. Oh, my other boy is Angel. He is solid black, and was surrendered to the shelter. He was 8 years old when I adopted him, and is now 10. He is my cuddly one.

I volunteer with a local cat rescue society, as well. I clean every second Sunday morning, and I go in every Thursday evening to help socialize some of the shy/scared/feral cats. I love the socializing!

Lots of familiar faces here for sure. Lots of Librarians too. What is it with librarians and cats? We've had up to 4 at one time but right now we don't have any since our old guy died this past year from cancer. Too sad.

The two I have right now is the most I've ever had at once. Until these two, I'd only ever had one cat at a time. There are lots of librarians who are cat people, for sure! Don't know why that is, but there are definitely lots of us! :-)

Barbara, I'm sorry about the little one you lost due to cancer. :-( Do you have other critters? Or are you planning to bring home another at some point? I do hope you'll consider adopting - there are soooo many fabulous cats out there who need homes!

Cin, we don't have any more critters. We've had dogs and cats in our 42 years together but right now we don't have any pets. We have an amazing amount of wild birds, turtles and occasional alligators right outside our back door though because we live on a pond in Central Florida. We've always plannined on doing some traveling when I retire (which is early in '10) but right now my Mom's the one with cancer. She lives with us and she's doing pretty well with the chemo but there are 4 more treatments, three weeks apart and then we'll see what's happening.

I always got my cats as rescues and, in our lives together we've had at 10 - 15 of them although 4 at once was the biggie. We lived in a very open county area and they had been abandoned on the side of the road - my sons were always bringing home kittens - that's where we got most of them.

An interesting story about our very first cat: We had lost our dog to a car accident when my boys were young. Months later I had a girl scout meeting in our little town library there was a young cat (just past kitten stage) that showed up near the bookdrop, obviously abandoned. I told the library staff and they brought it in and gave it some water. They asked if anyone wanted to take it home since they all had multiple cats at home themselves. My husband had always sworn that he hated cats so I said, I can't. That little cat sat in my lap through the whole meeting, purring to beat the band. I'm a pushover and he was so sweet, I finally gave in. We didn't have a box and, since I was giving one of the girls a ride home, she held the cat in the car. I drove to my house first, handed the kitty to my DH and said I'd be right back, that the kitty had been abandoned and found at the library. I took off like a flash and by the time I got back, he had fed the poor thing and was talking about what we had to do to get it healthy and he'd fixed up a litter box and everything! We had Gabriel for quite a few years and even found him a companion. That as the start of it all. My oldest son (37 and a bachelor city-dweller) has two cats that are about 10 years old. The cat we lost to cancer was about 16 y/o and he was very obviously my DH's cat! You can't hate cats when you get to know them!

Barbara, what a great story - thanks for sharing that one. I guess your husband converted and has enjoyed cats since? Mine was crazy about dogs, couldn't live without one. So we had both dogs and cats - pus fish, birds, rabbits at one time or another.

Yes, my husband is a definite cat convert. He still loves dogs too and dogs love him. He seems to know all the neighbors dogs and when they are out they love to rush him get their fill of his attention. If you want to travel though, having pets is hard. We'd like to do some traveling now that I have a plan to retire soon. You sound like you had a real house full - kids and pets - sounds like lots of good times.

I am definitely a cat person (my current avatar is a picture of my Jamie), but there is one cat I have met that I hated. I had to live with that demon for two years. I was so glad that he wasn't mine, and when I moved he didn't come with me. Never thought I could dislike an animal (especially a cat) so much, but it happened.

Barbara, that is a great story! I'm so glad you were able to convert your husband! :-)

You're right about travelling while you have pets. I am very lucky that I have two friends who are my cat-sitters, so my boys do pretty well while I'm away. But, it can be difficult to be sure that someone can be there while I'm away, especially around the holidays... Which reminds me, I'd better contact them and make sure someone will be around over Christmas!

Lucky you Cin. We had a neighbor willing to take care of our cat but we knew he'd missed us each time we came home. He didn't eat as well and he'd "punish" us for a little while by ignoring us until he couldn't stand it anymore and he'd jump in DH's lap and purr. We felt so bad each time. Now that he's gone, we don't want to do that to another kitty right now. Besides, you need time to mourn - its just like a member of the family.

Oh, I still feel awful when I leave them, but I know my cats are pretty lucky with the cat sitters I have. But, they have never punished me when I get home, which is really great.

Of course you need time to mourn. I wasn't sure exactly how long ago it was when you lost your last "baby", so I was curious what your plans were. And different people take different amounts of time, too.

My parents recently decided not to get another cat after their last one passed away for the same reason. They felt badly because they are away too much.

Definitely lots of everything, Barbara! When we both finally retired and could do some traveling, I suggested our next dog be small so we could take it places with less trouble (we'd had Huskies for years). The Yorkiepoo we got (then, a mini Dachschund to go with him) traveled well, but both were yappers. Right now, since I'm widowed, I own no pet - keep saying I don't want anything to need me. Maybe selfish, but after all those years I guess it's time.

Yes, Cin - it's so hard to find people who care as you do about your pets. And sometimes it may be a real hardship on those people to take them in - but they'll do so anyway.

Yup! I am in Canada! I used to go to Stampede every year. Well, I refuse to see the rodeo, but there is lots of other entertainment and lots of free stuff to see and do and I used to do the rides, too! Not so much with those anymore, though!

Stampede is really fun, though, overall. Even if you don't go to the Stampede grounds, the entire city really gets into it. A lot of companies downtown give people the morning of the parade off. People dress "western" all week, downtown buildings and malls are all decorated western as well. There are free pancake breakfasts throughout the city. The entire atmosphere of the city gets right into it and makes it really fun.

Auntie, I don't know if I knew you had cats. Tell me about them. :-)

Let's see: I do do rides...I LOVE Magic Mountain! I sit in Front on ALL the roller coasters...and I Do NOT Scream.

Aristophanes (Bud) is a BIG orange Male Tabby with an even BIGGER Attitude He is 11 years old in a few days & has been with me 10 years...he came off the Dineh (Navajo) Reservation, picked him up in a snow storm. I met him in July and had left him behind because I didn't think I could bring him across the border...and had dreams of him walking across the desert coming to live with me...so I went and got him...and he was waiting in the back of a pick-up truck when I drove up (in all that snow). He BITES (but not me no more...I smacked him) most everybody, whether he loves them or not.

Zeinab is a sweet pie...she is a mix of Chocolate Point Snowshoe & Manx....stubby tail & jack-rabbit legs. She is sweet, loving & shy (but she's warming up to guests). Bud is Soooooooooooooooooo jealous of her and chases her & bites her neck after playing nice. I think Zeinab is about 3 years younger than Bud. I just wanted another CPS after my gal Garance passed (she was 20)...and I just kept looking at the L.A. County Shelter's website until I saw her...and I went an picked her up. She's been with us about 7-8 years?

Awww, Bud's so lucky you went back and got him! :-) I'm sure he was thrilled to get out of all that snow! Zeinab sounds beautiful. Manx are so cute with that stubby tail, and snowshoe are just gorgeous!

My parents had a Siamese/Manx mix for 15 years, I think it was. I was surprised she lived so long considering they let her outside. Since outside cats don't usually live nearly that long... She was mean, though. Not terribly friendly with anyone and didn't much like to be petted either. She was Mom and Dad's last cat.

Most Siamese I have met tend to be peculiar and personality challenged. Garance was, I didn't think she even liked me until a few days before she passed. Had her for like 17 years...figured she lived with me as she had no place else to go.

My parents had had other Siamese cats and they weren't like that. Though I know the "stereotype" of them is that they are not very friendly. Actually, the only type of cat I ever remember Dad wanting was Siamese. Before Smokey (the Siamese/Manx), though, they did have a grey tabby manx. Shoot, now I've forgotten her name... it'll come to me... Tweeky! That's it! :-)

My parents live in a small town, so there are always farmers around with extra kittens. Actually, the first couple of cats we got were from family (both siamese), then the two manx were from farmers/friends of my parents'. The two we had when I was younger were both chocolate point. Smokey's colouring was lighter than that, but then she wasn't 100% siamese, either.

As for me, mine were adopted from the local Humane Society. I tend to choose based on personality. Mainly, anyway. With just a couple of limitations. :-)

Hi everyone, I joined a while back but haven't made it a regular habit of checking out my groups but I do keep my shelf updated. Got the notice re the book swap and I will definitely check in more often.

I'm a single but very happy mom and grandma to two sons (38 and 34) and terrific, light-up-my life grandkids (7 and 3). I still work FT but need to retire as I have too many hobbies and not enough time to fit everything in. My DVR is so full I have to keep deleting shows to tape new ones and then I never get around to watching them. I love, love to read, play golf when I find the time, babysit at a moment's notice if I don't already have plans, play online games/challenges and DL games that I just discovered a year ago(HOG, ADV, LFG). Good to keep the old brain working sharp. I just joined Facebook in September and was able to reconnect with my brother on a regular basis as we are starting to have to deal with health issues with aging parents. I spend way too much time there and it is cutting into my reading time. I have friends of 25+ years that get together on a regular basis. But most importantly, I have just committed myself to becoming healthier in the coming year and just got a Wii Fit Plus which I know I'm going to love plus the GK's love it too. I want to be around to see them get married and give me GGK's (lol). Hope to add some of you to my friends' list.

eta: also meant to add that I live in Oklahoma (Green Country area).

The bookclub hasn't worked out but Shelfari has me hooked. Other than reading, I like to spend my free time (ha!) knitting, sewing and hiking. My favorite types of books to read are fantasy and historical fiction, but thanks to Shelfari I've been opened up to a lot of books I never would have even heard of.

Right now some authors I love are Wilbur Smith, Dean Koontz, Dan Brown, Penny Vincenzi, and I am going to get more into James Rollins. I read one of his Sigma force books and loved it.
