    Birthdays anyone?

Ok after Christmas birthdays are my favorite thing. I just love people saying 'happy birthday' and with mine coming up, I thought, why not do a birthday list:) If you post your birthday here, I will keep track of it and hopefully will post for each month who has birthdays coming up:)

    I'm September 12th:)

Oh please, age is a state of mind. I work out, bike, play tennis daily, try new things, love a lot of new music. I am young at heart- and my kids friends think I am very cool because I actually know who Fall Out Boy, Paramore, Hey Monday, Forever the Sickest Kids, Cobra Starship and Kings of Leon are- and I play a lot of their music on my iPod.

Of course, the upcoming birthday will put me into my late-30s (37). Oh no! Chances are, though, I'll be upset about it for a minute or so, then move on! ;-)

Pepi, you have no idea!! I go to bed (often) at 3 am, get up at 10 (if I want to), play on my computer for as many hours as I care to, read for as many hours as I wish. Love all that. And the fact that I have two homes makes it better because here in MA, my friends don't live close at all and if I want to "get together" it takes planning and driving to wherever. But in Florida, I live in a mobile home park with loads of people my own age, activities galore, and near The Villages (older community) with oodles of stuff to see/do. Good life.

You've been there? I love what we can go to, but I keep saying I wouldn't live there. Of course, some of that is sour grapes because I couldn't afford it if I wanted to! LOL. But it's such a neat place and imagining what's available for residents is awesome. They charge for many of their offerings, though - even to residents, from what I understand. But those people can afford it.

The parents of one of my friends in graduate school were just moving in there. They had a nice, modest little place, and both of them were working in their retirement, so I guess they made it happen. It is a very expensive area. They showed us around, and I was floored by some of those houses. But the dance halls are fun, there are some great restaurants, and you can go everywhere on a golf cart! That's way too much fun :). It's a beautiful area around Ocala out there, and it's great being so close to Orlando.

I just joined and am quickly skimming through some of the threads and posts. I didn't notice any December birthdays yet (but I may have missed them).

Anyway, on Dec. 1, I'll be 37. Like you, Robyn, I just don't know where the time has gone! It really doesn't feel anything like I should be pushing 40! Ugh!!! Though honestly, for the most part, the number doesn't bother me. Only once in a while...

My wishes are added to LibraryCin's - those in December have to work at getting gifts, sometimes, with Christmas in the offing. All the best to all of you.

    Here's a neat website: http://www.440int.com/twtd/

Those Were the Days - Today in History. You can see what historical events happened on your birthday and famous people with whom you share your birthday. (Sorry - I had to get the address from my "Sent mail" and it only came through as a link to my mail instead of an active link to the website. Guess you'll have to copy and paste this one.)

Well, Happy Birthday, Kathy A., - mine is the day before, Oct. 20. I'll then be 79, a really b-i-g age, have a large party four days later with all my family, then fly to Florida for my six months there. I've always loved the fact that when I'm asked for my birth date, I can say 10-20-30; it's so cool. And, now that my memory is so awful, it's easy to remember!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, TOO! Your birth date IS cool. I will be 42. We don't celebrate birthdays too much in my family. Just the kids. My husband will do something nice for me, though. We don't buy gifts, we do something special for each other. One of the best things is, he makes a triple chocolate cake for me. YUM.

I'm really late seeing this post. My birthday is Jan 4th. It is very easy to forget because it comes right after the New Year's Eve celebrations and it's like everyone is worn out from the back-to-back holidays! Right around Jan 6th people will say "don't you have a birthday coming up?" Uh - well - over and out!

BTW, for those who were talking about The Villages, that's where I live! Not as expensive as it sounds - we aren't rich! Lots and lots of free things to do. For those who like golf (I haven't played yet - still working FT but soon to retire) it's basically free!! That's why most people move here. When they hear that Jim and I don't play they tend to look at us very strangely :-) Music and dancing on the squares, every night and I do mean EVERY NIGHT! Free pools - there are over 50 of them! There's a Mystery Lovers Book Club that meets once a month and that's free. Clubs of all sorts are meeting every day and night and there's no charge for the use of the recreation centers for the meetings so they don't have to charge any dues, etc. It's a fabulous place to retire; I've been here 10 years and am looking forward to retiring in the middle of January.

The squares are my favorite part. I"m determined to retire somewhere like that. I wish I still lived in FL so I could visit my friend's parents with her, lol. It was a great vacation from school.

When we were both still working, my DH and I would come down to visit my mom and stepdad. Just before we left for home, we would go to the square just one more time. When we moved down here and found ourselves at the square tapping our feet, we'd head back to the house feeling that our bags would be packed and we'd have to catch a flight! :-(

When did you come down here - how long ago? We've lived here for 10 years and visited for about sevenyears before that.

Barbara, are you talking about retirement villages in Florida. I've seen ads on TV for them. I love to golf and I use teeitup as a screen name and in one of my email addresses. I belong as a non-resident member at a place in Bella Vista, Arkansas where there are maybe 10 golf courses and 5 or 6 lakes all within a 30-mile radius. It started as more of a retirement community but has really expanded since it is so close to home of Wal-Mart in Bentonville. I don't get over there much anymore because my golfing partners, male and female, have had to cut back due to financial reasons. I bought my son a membership lot and he takes about 15 guys over there twice a year and is grooming his 7-yr old son to play so they will enjoy it immensely.

Yes, Sharon, I have been living in The Villages for ten years. I am just getting around to retirering to the retirement village I've been living in! My DH has been retired for 10 years. Neither one of us plays golf but this is a very big golfing community. My mother used to play until she hurt her shoulder at 81, it doesn't bother her bowling though so she thinks that's fin. People here golf for free on the many, many, many 9 hole courses and the 18 hole County Club courses are amazingly affordable. I'm not sure I'll take golf up, since DH doesn't play, but lots of my friends play and have suggested I take lessons. I have a feelling I'll be trading one stessor (work) for another one (golf)!

hehehe! No plans to come down... sorry! Right around then, I'll be planning to head "home" for Christmas.

The day of, I didn't have any plans. I was supposed to go out to a movie and for food with a friend today, but we had a HUGE snowstorm starting yesterday, and the winds and blowing snow continued today, so we cancelled. So, we have to reschedule. :-( So, I actually haven't even really celebrated yet.
