sTORI Telling by Tori Spelling - 4 Stars
I've always liked Tori Spelling. Even though she came from Hollywood royalty, she never came across to me as a spolied rich kid (and we all know there are PLENTY of those out there). She may have gotten her part on 90210 because of her father, but she made that bit part into a key role in the show - and she stayed with the show till the bitter end. She's made mistakes in her life - big and small - and she has flaws, but she freely admits to them.
After reading this book, I like her even more. This is a very candid, but never lurid, re-telling of her life from childhood through the birth of her son and the first year of her show Tori and Dean - Inn Love. Even though I'm a fan of her reality show and have probably seen every episode, the info in this book was almost all new to me.
One of the things I liked most about the book is that it's mostly about the relationships in her life - good and bad. Relationships with her family (father, mother, brother and beloved nanny), her boyfriends, her close circle of friends most of who are not in show-biz, her failed first marraige and finally her current husband Dean and son Liam. I'm a skeptic and believe that there a little "spin" in every memoir, but it certainly didn't feel like that here.
It probably says something that there iare three pages of acknowledgements at the back of the book. Tori knows who helped her make her who she is today, and gives credit where credit is due.
