  I agree, I love the Dharma Treasures book mentioned above, and my kids request stories from that anthology all the time. And they enjoy and have been engrossed by the more didactic readings as well.

  Also: Kindness: A Treasury of Buddhist Wisdom for Children and Parents, is full of beautiful stories. isbn: 0-910055-67-x

  There are many smaller picture books of jataka tales.

  And I love Thich Nhat Hahn's : Pebble in my pocket

  And for younger kids: Every Breath, A Smile

  Barefoot Book of Buddhist Tales - by Sherab Chodzin (Author, Editor), Alexandra Kohn (Author, Editor), Marie Cameron (Illustrator)
  Mountains of Tibet - by Mordicai Gerstein (Author, Illustrator)
  Zen Shorts - by John Muth (Author)
  Zen Ties - by John Muth (Author)

  Three Questions - by John Muth (Author) is also very complimentary to Buddhist teachings
