The Big Bang, the Buddha, and the Baby Boom by Wes "Scoop" Nisker
I just finished reading this book. It is both a memoir and Wes Nisker's spiritual journey from being raised Jewish to becoming a meditating Buddhist. He makes a lot of interesting observations often in a quick witted humorous way.
Some of his ideas/observations:
He observes how recent scientific developments (e.g. indetermancy principle, quarks) support the Zen idea that things are imponderable. He contemplates how our stressed out, overworked citizens need to slow down. He points out how being ecologically conscientious fits right in with Buddhist philosophy.
This memoir is both entertaining and informative. He combines both his personal experiences and the history of our country from the 1940s to the present to explain his spiritual journey.
I highly recommend this book. I have added it to our group shelf.
