Let's start with...
What are your thoughts on the epigraph?
Thoughts on the first 2 or 3 chapters?
sorry, I've been busy. I think...I liked some of the introductory parts of the book more than the action or the dialogue. Harper Lee has a great way of turning a phrase. Descriptions of characters and the inherent logic that is specific to the South and the county they live in particular. I don't have the book right with me, I already returned it to the library after I finished it so you'll forgive me. I've only seen the movie and not recently so it was nice to not have too much in my head going into this (with the very notable exception of Gregory Peck as Atticus). The introduction to Dill was great. What happens in the first 2 or 3 chapters? I'm guessing that would be the introduction to the teacher who tells Scout she shouldn't be reading at home. Curious about Lee's biography and if they were trying to introduce an arbitrary new curriculum to her school when she was growing up or if it was something she observed when she was older. I always thought is was very strange...and it's still strange how Scout and Jem refer to their father by his first name. I have friends who do that and it bothers me to no end.
Feel free to add a summary of a chapter below this comment (click "reply") as you complete a chapter. I just ask that we keep them sequential - as in, don't put a summary of chapter 11 before chapter 2
