Which imaginary world would you most like to visit?
Started by howard1004, Friday, July 18 2008. Last post Friday, July 25 2008.

Tell us about the imaginary place you've discovered in a book that you would really like to step into. What makes it so appealing to you?

I'd like to step into Brandon Mull's Fablehaven world. Being able to frolic with fairies, ward off trolls, play tennis with centaurs (it's in the story) just sounds too fun and fascinating. And have some big adventures to boot, of course.

Middle Earth, definitely. I've been reading those books since I was young, and no world touches me more.

I did visit Middle Earth--sort of. I was once on a writing retreat in Wales (no kidding) and was told only after I was there that Tolkien had done some of his writing in that very location. Chills!

It wasn't much of a stretch to see Long Lake and Laketown stretching out before me after somebody identified them for me. Maybe it was just autosuggestion, but it sure LOOKED like Middle Earth. That image is still burned into my brain, it was such a thrill!

What part of Middle Earth? What would you like to do there? Who would you like to run into?

Let's see--first I'd want to visit the Shire; it seems quaint and rustic. Then I'd go to Rivendell, Lothlorien and Gondor (in that order). The great hall in Rivendell sounds like a great place to just rest awhile. And Lothlorien just sounds otherworldly beautiful. Plus, they have treehouses--how cool is that? Gondor just sounds like the epitome of a citadel.

Frieda--sounds wonderful! Perhaps I'll get a chance to visit someday.

Well, I'd like to visit Zelazny's Amber, but only if I could be assured that none of that weird family would be even remotely interested in me.

Valdemar or Pern, but only if I could be one of the heroic characters who gets a Companion (telepathic horse, kinda) or a dragon (telepathic, of course)

I'm partial to Pern too, especially from dragonback! Or maybe a visit to the Enchanted Forest as a guest of Cimorene!

I just "re-read" the Enchanted Forest books by listening on tape and, yes, they were fun! But gotta stick with Pern or Valdemar because I feel invested in those places. (also not so YA, love parts about/of Darkover but I'd have to have laran, of some sort!)

I can relate. I love animals and the idea of having a dragon or a telepathic horse as a friend is so fun!

The world in Harry Potter. When I was reading the books, I loved hearing about all the details in the everyday lives of the witches and wizards. I would love to explore that world!

Yes! Either the world of Harry Potter or Narnia

Where would you go? Which witches and wizards would you pay a visit to?

I would go everywhere... Diagon Alley, Hogwarts, the Ministry of Magic. I would love to visit with just about every witch or wizard in the series (except Voldemort, I'll pass on that one).

I would wander up and down Diagon Alley for hours and eventually try to buy a wand and then I would bother all of the owls I could find before they found out I was a muggle and kicked me out.

I'd like to go to Perelandra. The rolling, soft landscape and plentiful, delicious fruit would be like heaven to me.

I would love to visit both middle earth (especially lothlorien) and the world of Hogwarts, but I think I'd want to visit Narnia most. I'd enjoy talking to all of the animals, and meeting Puddleglum. Although hanging out with Ents sounds pretty interesting too. I would definitely want to visit the candy shop at Hogsmeade too.

Hahaha! Sounds like a whirlwind tour for you Betsy G! I think the talking animals would be especially interesting for me too. Imagine the different perspectives they would bring.
