Audible Books to recommend

I thought it would be nice to have a list of books that people have read that are on audible (downloads from Audible.com & library CDs are my choices). I've created quite a wish list, making sure that it is listing books that can be listened to -- otherwise, no point in thinking about them. We are so lucky to have such an incredible selection...more »

I enjoyed some of Frank Muller's work although he tended to read books that weren't to my taste. I think I listened to his performances of a couple of Steinbeck books and they were outstanding.

I know I'm weird, but I can't listen to either of them. They each have a particular cadence to their voices (Guidell sort of speeds up toward the full stop at the end of sentences. Brick lifts the ends of his sentences so it's not quite a question) that once I start hearing I can't ignore. I used to like both, but now I actively avoid them, especially Brick. Overexposure, maybe?

My husband's solution to narrators he doesn't like is to speed up the playback. He tried it on a W.E.B. Griffin book to get through the part that catches new readers up on the plot thus far and decided he likes getting through the books quicker. Now he listens to nearly everything (except his beloved Discworld audios) as though Alvin the Chipmunk were narrating. It would fray my nerves, but he's happy.

LOL, whatever works I guess. I can't get my hubby to listen to books but at least he's reading fiction now!

I also like Jim Dale. I love his readings of the Potter books.

    For me:

Definitely John Lee (on K Follet books)

    I also favor Scott Brick

But, I'm fairly new at audio and I'm sure many great voices will emerge.
