    Pulitzer Prize for Fiction

    Save Changes Cancel
All books listed as Prize Winners for Fiction, 1917-2010, are now listed in the books on the group shelf as "We've Read". So if you need to add a title to your shelf, you can do that from here.

There are a few on the shelf that are not Pulitzer prize winners in the Group shelf.

Thank you, very convenient. Is the shelf composed of only Pulitzer winners?

There are a few books in the We're Reading section which are not Pulitzer winners but are about Pulitzers and other prizes. There were two on the shelf which were not Pulitzer winners, but I figured out how to remove them. So all the books on the shelf are Pulitzer winners, although some are not Pulitzer fiction winners.

How you can tell is by looking at the tags of the books. All the titles here are also on my shelves, though not all editions are on my shelves if more than one edition of a title is shown here. One of my tags is "pulitzer: " following the colon is a category of fiction, drama, history, biography, poetry, or nonfiction. Since the creator of the group specified all these in the description of the group, I figure adding the books of these is fair game for any of us.

I hope no one else adds other non-Pulitzers to the "We've read" shelf. Otherwise it will get very confusing.

    Hello DashForCover,

I might be the no one you are referring to in the above note. Truthfully I do not remember if I added books that were not "Winners". If you'd like I can certainly remove the books on the "We're Reading" Shelfari, as I am guilty of adding these particulars. No harm intended..I just get a little off the mark at times. Thanks for the update and keeping everything organized!

Personally, I think the titles in the "We're Reading" are a good addition to the shelves. Its nice to have some links to works about the Pulitzers. I'd vote to leave them. Which is why I didn't remove them in the first place.

Maus won the Pulitzer Prize Special Award for 1992, not the award for Fiction.

I'm glad you posted, though. I ignored the Special Awards but I will now take a closer look at them. A lot of the Pulitzer winners are not really reachable long term since they involve newspaper reporting, photos, etc. But the SA may, in fact, be an exception. And they would be included in this group. The others would too, if one could find them. But I have no plan to do so. There are enough with the other categories covered here.

Just snuck in a 2-for-1 holiday read: "The Reivers" by William Faulkner. The novel won the 1963 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, and the author won the Nobel Prize for Literature. I loved the story. Has anyone seen/recommend the movie version?

I saw the movie and then read the book. I loved the movie and was disappointed in the book. I haven't read anything by Faulkner in 30 years but remember thinking the movie and the book were two totally different animals.

I just finished a second Pulitzer Prize winner for Fiction: Willa Cather's "One of Ours" (1923 winner). This was my second Cather novel (My Antonia being the first) and I was intrigued by the relative complexity of this story. The novel had 2 distinct story lines or movements, which I felt to be a little too disconnected. Otherwise, I liked the novel and continue to be impressed with Cather's writings.
