Jacob, I agree to a part of your message and disagree to another part. I agree that religion is not needed. But I disagree that it ever was of any use.
It is not that religion has kept humanity alive and going for thousands of years, but it is that people did not completely believe in religion that kept them going. If everyone completely believe in religion, they are bound to kill each other and our species would go extinct.
Had religion never been there we would have had even more scientific advancement as religion would not have come in the way of science as it has always been doing and still does.
If there is no religion the world would have been much better and if we are able to change our world into a religion less world it surely would become much better.
