Books by African Authors or on Africa

There is a growing interest in the west to read stories about Africa, as told by indigenous authors or authors who understand Africa's rich historic past as well as its current challenges.
This is a group to promote books by African Authors as well as books on Africa.

Helon Habila -- Waiting for an Angel

This book is beautiful. That's the best way to describe it. And depressing, especially for someone also living in a third world hellhole (not as bad as Nigeria, but it could get there, and the whole thing is immensely sad--how it is that these countries implode because of corrupt leadership--it is so, so, tragic, especially for the ordinary people stuck in these miasmas). I don't indulge in hyperbole in books but this book is truly a gem.
Has anyone else read this? Would love to hear others' thoughts.
    I highly recommend!

Hi, good to read your glowing assessment of Waiting for an Angel. It is on my list to read - I have read Habila's Measuring Time and liked it a lot! Two brothers coming to terms with their lives in very different ways. Did you read it?
