The Ankh-Morpork Auxiliary Pratchett Society

Are you a fan of the honourable Terry Pratchett? Well then, The Ankh-Morpork Auxiliary Pratchett Society is the group for you! At least we're pretty certain it is. We'll find out I suppose. Discworld is of course terribly popular with Pratchett fans, but our group will focus on any of his works.

Pyramids is 'meh' so far for me?!
Started by Shawn, Monday, May 19 2008. Last post Thursday, May 22 2008.

What is the deal with Pyramids? I had not read it before, and I can't seem to get into it. Is it just me being in the wrong mood? Or is it not so great? I am maybe 1/3 in and Teppic has come home and they are building the pyramid to bury his father. I was loving the assassin's guild part in the beginning, but now it's not grabbing me.

What say ye previous readers?!

Guess I shouldn't post here, because I haven't read it yet, but I'm a post-a-holic. My daughter liked it, but not every Pratchett has the right feel. I know there have been some I loved that others just thought were ho-hum.

I liked Pyramids a lot. Maybe it's just not your thing.

It might just have sagged in the middle. I think it had a strong beginning and a strong ending, but Djelibeybi is pretty dreary, flat place to be.

The simple fact that you typed the word, "Djelibeybi" has given me the strength to press on :)
I'll report back with my final impressions.

Well, it's his first essay on a subject he covers much better in Thief of Time, as far as I'm concerned. I don't think Pyramids gave Pratchett much of a happy feeling either, as he hasn't bothered to mention any of the characters from it in any other DW novel. Not even the greatest mathematician in the world.

I personally liked the end, but still feel there was an overall lack of zing. That middle bit really does sag. Honestly, it's quite a bit better on rereads (yes, I did), because you know what's going to happen and can laugh at the dupes in evil glee.
