Hogfather - the movie
Started by FKnabe, Saturday, March 22 2008. Last post 3 weeks ago.

HAs anybody seen the movie "Hogfather"? It has just come out on DVD in North America. A must for Pratchett fans, to say the least. Great entertainment! The interview with Terry in the bonus material is also worth watching.

I'm trying to get it from Netflix, but it says "long wait."

It will be worth the wait.

In the meantime, BBC tv is showing The Colour of Magic tonight and tomorrow night (Easter), done by the same producer. The clips looks wonderful. It will be a while before this comes out on DVD I think.

I wasn't blown away by the movie of "Hogfather". It didn't stink, but somehow, for me, the life and soul was missing. Not sure why. Maybe the pacing? It did make me want to read the book again though. My son, who hasn't read the book, and joined in watching the movie about halfway through, enjoyed it a lot. Hopefully it will engage him in the books too.

I'm still going to watch "The Color of Magic", but I don't think I'll buy the "Hogfather".

I watched it twice, and just let it sink in slowly - I enjoyed it more the second time round.

You are quite correct of course! I was reading about the BBC production of McCall Smith's No. 1 Lady detective agency at the same time... both productions I hope to see here in not too distant a future.

We LOVED the SkyOne production of HogFather! Its going to be a yearly tradition for sure!

Saw the new "Color of Magic" at Easter too, thanks to a friend, It wasn't just the first book! Part two was really "The Light Fantastic"

Now neither production was perfect - and we really missed the the bits of the books that were edited out - but it did feel like they pretty much brought both to life. I thought Susan was particularly well done.

Long may they continue to adapt our favorite Pratchett novels!

I think I need to follow FKnabe's advice, maybe read the book again and let the movie rest a bit then watch again. I didn't hate it at all, I just didn't leap in the air and say, "Perfect!"

I enjoyed it as well. Wonder if it's available on DVD? Teatime was nicely played, I thought. Totally creepy. And I may be in love with the actress who played Susan. lol

Hi Quoth, the DVD is available in North America as well as Europe. I bought it and is good to see it more than once. Also some extra material which is great.

I liked it okay, but it could have been better, I think. I don't think it did the book justice. I honestly felt like it was almost TOO silly, even by Pratchett's standards...
