Nice topic. I think I’ll pick some parts of The Lord of The Rings. I specially remember the moment Frodo breaks from the group after Boromir tries to take the ring from him. That portion of the story was stunning for me at the age I read it because Frodo (that wasn’t a brave fighter or a skilled warrior) decides to break apart and to continue alone to protect his friends despite the risk. A riks that was very vivid at that moment, after Gandalf's falls in Moria -I didn't know at that time he will return changed later- and with Boromir dying -of course Frodo didn't knew about Boromir until his return but I as read knew!-
Then everything continues building up around that plot line with Gollum following them (an amazing character on that story) and reaching the point where Frodo and Sam has a dialog over the lembas and the rationing Sam was doing. Frodo tells Sams he don’t think they’ll need any for the return and then you come to realize how deeply was his commitment to the mission he alone can get done.
Of course there are many other parts, as the portions where the Ents are introduced or the moment when Eowyn kills the which-king.
And there are many others. I have read TLOR three or four times and feel some of the guys there as good friends of mine.
Again, nice topic and join your toast for Mr. Tolkien.
Have a good one!
