  • Looking for the right books...

I want to read some books on lycanthrope/vampire/demon hunters that are not romance oriented. I'm more looking for a heroic oriented approach and I was hoping some folks out there had some good recommendations on that front.

"Zero Sight" by B. Justin Shier is without question one of the best YA fantasy/adventure story I've read in some time. If you liked "The Hunger Games" and/or "The Maze Runner" you are going to love this trilogy, it rocks! The action is intense and gory, Dieter and a group of mage's and one vampiress fight to save their way of life at a special college for gifted young people. The breathless fight scenes, incredible magic, and the entertainment factor in this story will capture your imagination and let you participate in a trip you won't soon forget...so buckle up, you are about to embark on an adventure the likes of which you have never taken before! I hope the rest of the trilogy meets or exceeds the first book in the series. Enjoy and READ ON...

spent a whole summer 2 years ago going straight through the series. I also enjoyed Kevin Hearne's Iron Druid Chronicles. They are not as dark as dresden, but he is turning out 2 - 3 books a year, so the wait is not so long.

Monster Hunter series by Larry Correia. The good guys hunt down and kill everything on your list along with zombies, wights, evil wizards, cultists, and twisted horrors a la Lovecraft. The vampires don't sparkle and the werewolves want to eat you. The characters are pretty enjoyable and the action is intense. There's no question of who's the good guys. Their motto is: Evil looms. Cowboy up. Kill it. Get Paid.
The best place to start is with book one: Monster Hunter International. You can check out the first 7 chapters for free here: http://www.baenebooks.com/chapters/1439132852/1439132852.htm
    Hope you like it.

The Noble Dead series by Barb & J.C. Hendee. I've only read up to the fourth book, but they're pretty amazing so far.

The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher is a great series. Can't recommend it enough. Also I'm currently reading Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith and I think it's a very good read. Uses partials of Lincoln's actual biography and diary entries in the storytelling. Good stuff.

Can't say enough good things about the Danilov Quintet by Jasper Kent. The first book is Twelve. Vampires in Imperial Russia.

What about the Vampire earth series by E E knight ?? It was a blast for me . It has a post apocalyptic setting where vampires(or rather vampire like) have taken over the world and the protagonist is part of the underground resistance . It was a fun read

Hunter Kiss Series by Marjorie M. Liu follows Maxine kiss as she fights demons to keep the world safe. There is mild romance but from what i can remember it takes a backseat to her defending the earth.
