Black Feminist/Womanist Literature

This group is designed for those of us who appreciate the contributions of black feminists and other feminists of color to the literary canon. The group is inclusive of all genres and periods of literature. The group is inclusive...period. :-)

PLEASE READ: Ebb, Flow, and Continuous Positivity

    Hello everyone!

I haven't posted in some time due to a number of [life] factors, (though I do sneak a peek here very, very often) and I'm extraordinarily pleased to see that the group has continued to grow not only in the number of her members, but also in the number of topics and, thus, in the overall level of participation. Wonderful! Please be mindful that it's typical of any group, my friends, whether online or not, to experience its share of ups and downs in member participation; this is life. There was a time when I'd post quite regularly only to find little to no input from members which was fine, as I recognize that we all have lives outside of virtual "reality." You've now experienced this (perhaps curious) lack of active participation from my end, and I hope you'll be just as understanding. Nonetheless, I'd like to pull the reins on our group for a minute and guide us back to our original mission. Apparently, there has been a bit of proselytizing, slight comments directed toward fellow members (including myself), etc. and although it's truly disappointing, I'm all about GOOD VIBES so keep an eye out for the newness that is to come within the Black Feminist/Womanist shelfari book group! I think you'll love it. You'd better! ;) Thank you for your membership!

    Love,

    Jaya

    Jaya,

There has been very little activity. Many of us have repeatedly popped in hoping to engage one another. Not that the specific comments matter but why bring attention to it if you don't want to address it?

Yes, we all have life issues but there was no leadership or communication for months from you and you are the lone admin. Simply a note stating you could not be here, is common courtesy. If members expressed disappointment or criticism, they should be able to so without censorship. We're adults here and the forum is public. As a feminist, I say what I think without apology and when I frack up, I fess up without excuses.

Sometimes we bite off more than we can chew. I have. Biting off excess leads to bloating, which is uncomfortable which leads to purging. Awful habit. But I'm guilty. I belong to the "Too many project club". Anyhoo, if there is any group to take a break from it's "Too many." Like another member stated, we're all busy. It's a matter of communicating with others and being honest with ourselves about how much we can juggle.

Looking forward to seeing what plans you have for cultivating a thriving, cohesive group.

      zawadi,

I'm strongly opposed to censorship and, as you'll find, I did not delete ANY comments that have any semblance of expressed disappointment or criticism about the group or my administration. My original post, however, IS about threads and comments that already HAVE BEEN deleted. Those affected are very well aware.

And as a feminist, I'm tactful.

    Jaya,
I don't think I questioned if you're tactful and there was no need to check if you deleted anything. I asked what I wanted to know: if you would be one to delete. As a admin, you know we have the power to delete and in this format, when a post is deleted, there is no indication who deleted the post.

Stress management is the key factor here. We all deserve our leisure time. Most of all it is like a woman's body that needs to be taken care of or if you don't there will be complications.

For example I'm musing on the type of literature and we seem to read on relationships women in particular. Walker's version of the arrived woman and I suggested love's woman who is struggling. This based on the fact that short stories work well when busy. I'm still reading books. Finished Moseley's Devil in a Blue Dress, half way through Nappily Faithful author Trish; and about a third of the way through Malidoma's Of Spirit and the Water. No time was wasted reading on The Kalahari Typing School for Men and it's time too go back to the library and pick out something else. So I will be including whatever.
