Black Feminist Politics from Kennedy to Clinton
I wanted to post you all about my new book, "Black Feminist Politics from Kennedy to Clinton." Have you ever wondered why Dr. Joycelyn Elders was forced to leave her post? Why the women in the Congressional Black Caucus who voted against ClarenceThomas didn't dare to speak on behalf of Anita Hill? Why Barbara Lee was alone in her opposition to the Iraq war resolution?
Since the sixties, Black women have tried to gain centrality by their participation in Presidential Commissions, Black feminist organizations,
theatrical productions, film adaptations of literature, beauty pageants, electoral politics, and Presidential appointments. But between 1961 and 2001, were Black women able to gain political power?
I hope you read the book and join the discussion. Visit me on my website www.duchessharris.com and blog www.sisterscholar.com.
