    Book Tattoos

So, I was thinking about getting a tattoo of a book quote on my wrists. It made me wonder what books quotes that others would consider tattooing.

I think I might get the quote, "I myself am made entirely of flaws stitched together with good intentions." - Augusten Burroughs, Running With Scissors

    What would you all get?

"How can one person be more real than any other? Well, some people do hide and others seek. Maybe those who are in hiding-escaping encounters, avoiding surprises, protecting their property, ignoring their fantasies, restricting their feelings, sitting out the Pan pipe hootchy-kooch of experience--maybe those people, people who won't talk to rednecks, or if they're rednecks won't talk to intellectuals, people who're afraid to get their shoes muddy or their noses wet, afraid to eat what they crave, afraid to drink Mexican water, afraid to bet a long shot to win, afraid to hitchhike, jaywalk, honky-tonk, cogitate, osculate, levitate, rock it, bop it, sock it, or bark at the moon,Maybe such people are simply inauthentic, and maybe the jackleg humanist who says differently is due to have his tongue fried on the hot slabs of Liars Hell. Some folks hide, and some folks seek, and seeking, when it's mindless, neurotic, desperate, or pusillanimous can be a form of hiding. But there are folks who want to know and aren't afraid to look and won't turn tail should they find it-and if they ever do, they'll have a good time anyway because nothing, neither the terrible truth nor the absence of it, is going to cheat them out of one honest breath of earth's sweet gas."

      ~from Still Life With Woodpecker

This book is amazing! There are a lot of passages within it that are very influential, but this one seemed to make the biggest impact on me:)

Oh cool, I'm so glad that your going to read it. Please let me know what you think of it when you finish? Just a heads up if you haven't read anything by Tom Robbins, his style of writing can be very difficult to understand, but it is so worth the effort.

Mutilate your skin, anyone? How about inject a forein substance into your body? Undergo an unneccesary, painful and potentially dangerous ordeal for the sake of putting an unremovable picture/phrase onto your skin, that you may regret later???

I apologise if I have offended anybody, but this is a topic I feel vehemently about.

I have 3 tattoos. I've been thinking about getting "The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me. --Ayn Rand" to remind myself to keep moving, keep pushing. I like the quote you chose from Running with Scissors! Where are you going to put it?

If I get it I think I'd like it on my wrists.
One wrist would have "I myself am made entirely of flaws"
And the other would have "Stitched together with good intentions."

I really like the idea (I too have a few tattoos, all of which are in easily hidden places) I love the idea of the wrist, and getting a quote that suites you life and reminds you of the path you should be on. Most of the quoted I like are too long.. but my favorite new one is by Carlos Ruiz Zafon "All money is dirty if it was clean nobody would want it" I also like what carrie Fisher said in her audobiography- "Resentment is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die." Either way it would be a life lesson that I felt I needed to be reminded of (greed, bitterness).

I would love to get one around my ankle...I want it to say Springsteen but written in decorative writing so to everyone else it would look like just decorative writing...except to the very observant.

I would tattoo "In the book of life, the answers aren't in the back." ...Charlie Brown - that is if I wanted a book quote tattoo.

My next tattoo is going to be the earth and on top of it it will say 'Top 1%' - I will get it tattooed on my foot right after I complete the Chicago Marathon in fall because less than 1% of the entire world population can successfully run a marathon.

    Tattoo, not me.

And if your looking for a job some people will frown on that if it is very noticeable. If you want one I would put it somewhere that when your working it is not noticeable. Sorry if this offends people, or you think I'm an old fogie, but it just isn't a very good professional look. And if you ever get tired of it, it cost $$$$$ to get it taken off. But it's your body and you can make up your own mind.

I agree with Charlene, except more strongly; as I said above:

Mutilate your skin, anyone? How about inject a foreign substance into your body? Undergo an unnecessary, painful and potentially dangerous ordeal for the sake of putting an irremovable picture/phrase onto your skin, that you may regret later??? And I would like to add that not only does it take $$$$$ to remove, but it can scar, and is very painful!!!

I apologize if I have offended anybody, but this is a topic I feel vehemently about.

I've been thinking about getting a tattoo for a long time, but I could never decide what I want. A book quote tattoo is a great idea. It would be so hard to choose which quote to get. I think I'm too indecisive. I guess I should just stick to piercings. ;)

Tattoos and piercings are part of our culture here in the Philippines. In fact, we still have indigenous tribes who practice the more elaborate rituals.
Although, now adays it's more of a self expression rather than culture. So, it's no big here. I for one have a tattoo and ear piercings.
I've never encountered anyone here with a book tattoo, though.

    Book tattoo.. hmmm...brilliant idea.

I was at Borders yesterday and they had a very small book of "Librarian Tattoos", they were fake tattoos but hilarious. I think my favorite was "LITERATE 4 LIFE" written in that typical gang type of font (gothic looking). There were also books with rose/skulls across them, or a skull resting on top of a book and said "Alas, poor Yorick!" below it. I thought it was great but I didn't feel like shelling money out for it. :-)
