    What are you reading now?

I'm reading Mary Roach's Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science & Sex.
P.S. Yesterday I met Rosemary Honnold at a Library Conference.

I just started Elinor Lipman's Then She Found Me, which was the inspiration for the new Helen Hunt movie. I had already read and enjoyed two other books by Lipman and I'm enjoying this one, too. But looking at the listing for the movie on IMBD, I can already tell that some changes have been made. The main character of the book starts dating a librarian named Dwight; there's nobody named Dwight listed in IMBD. :-(

Among other things, I am reading an ARC copy of The House at Midnight (already out in U.K.; U.S. publication is set for June 3). It's a contemporary gothic novel by Lucie Whitehouse. An intriguing idea, but so far it is not living up to expectation.

I just started Kerouac's On the Road. It's on the school reading list. I am going to run book discussions on some of the titles beginning in July.

I disliked "on the Road" and found it such a slog to read. I managed to get through more than half of the book. As a librarian I am ashamed to admit that I went on to Spark Notes to finish.

Mary Roach Bonk. That cracks me up.
    Her real name?

Am reading 'Motel Nirvana' about the American desert and the kooky new agers who live there. A road novel that could be read in conjunction with Kerouac's 'on the road' I guess. Not as hilarious as Bill Bryson but insightful nonetheless.

I just got "When You are Engulfed in Flames" by Sedaris. I'm sure it'll be good. I own the CD box set of his other books. I love listening to David's delivery.

I am almost finished with an ARC I picked up at the ALA-Midwinter: The Seamstress. Very, very interesting novel of Brazil during the late 1920's - 1930's. Will be released in August. ~ Carla

Sarah Addison Allen "The sugar queen" (cuz I finished "Garden Spells" and loved it!) & David Sedaris' "When you are engulfed in flames"-- so completely at opposite ends of the spectrum, but I'm enjoying both of them!

The last book I read this summer that I really enjoyed was Second Virgin Birth by Tommy Taylor. Although there are a few spelling and grammatical errors, the concept is a stunning one: DNA taken from the nails on the one true cross and splinters from the same are used to bring Jesus back to life in an artificial insemination scenario. There is a cliffhanger at the end, and I think Mr. Taylor is planning on a sequel. It is a fascinating read with momentum.

    Edith Wharton's "Hudson River Bracketed"
It is not one of her better books. I think there is a reason why it is not one of her more famous books!

I am reading The point of rescue. Not the type of book I would normally read but am trying to expand out of my preffered Genre.

I'm reading House & Home....I think anyone who has to move from their house when they do not have a choice can identify with this book. I'm only half way done with it but it's already made me laugh and cry.
