The Foxfire Series
Started by Bucky W, Monday, February 4 2008. Last post Sunday, February 24 2008.

I grew up reading through these books. My grandpa owned the entire series. I was just curious if anyone else was familiar with them.

Also, I'm new to the group (and to Shelfari) and just wanted to introduce myself. I was born and raised here in Salisbury, NC. Been here all my life except for one year I spent in Detroit. I quickly realized that the south is the only place for me. :)

Hi, I'm familiar with the Foxfire books ~ used to visit the Dillard House, Dillard, Georgia which was next door to Clayton, GA. where the Foxfire books got their start.

that's great! I've met a few of the people from the books. Mostly the Hicks family.

Extremely familiar with them! I have one by my bed at the moment, with all the section on animal dressing marked. :) I enjoy reading them for the medical lore, and tales most of all.

Me too. Growing up I used to get Foxfire 6 and make every toy I could out of it...hehe. But the tales are my favorite. The one by Kenny Runion talking about going to the dentist is priceless!

I have the one with the moonshine stills. It used to be a family tradition, so I'm naturally fascinated with the process!

I also grew up with these books. My dad loved them, and I gave him each new addition. When he passed away, I inherited the books. I often use them for reference material, especially if I am referring to life as it used to be in the South. I am so glad the series was written. Otherwise, a lot of great history would have been lost forever.

My mother-in-law used to quote items from them as if they were factual. She got really angry with me when I told her they were a study in the folklore of, as I remember, the southen appalacians and not scientfic works. This was in Idaho in the 1970s
