First Group Read voting results
Started by amyhagberg, Monday, May 12 2008. Last post Monday, June 23 2008.

Hey everybody -

Thanks for casting your ballots for the first ever History-Fiction group read! Here are the top five books:

1. The Book Thief
2. People of the Book
3. Boleyn Inheritance
4. The Suspicians of Mr. Whicher
5. Digging to America

So our first book will be “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak. I'll post the first question on July 1st, so hopefully that will give you enough time to pick up a copy of the book and get it read.

If your favorite wasn't chosen this time, don't worry. I'll save the list and if this discussion has a lot of participation, we'll do the next one in the list in August or September.

I'm looking forward to it!

I read TBT already, but I have audio of it that I can listen to in order to refresh my memory. Currently reading People of the Book, and have The Boleyn Inheritance as well as Mr. Whichler. I don't like Anne Tyler, so I don't know that I'll read that one.

I finally figured out how to navigate to the group page/ list, etc. I have "the Book Thief" on my shelf!
AND....I haven't read it yet!
Please count me in on this group. I'll look forward to the first question on July 1.
Thanks, Alice (Mom M)
p.s. I did start the Gabaldon series again.

Just picked up a copy of the book. I have a week left of vacation and once it is over I will start to get back into reading. That sounds a little off I know but I actually get more reading in when I am not vacationing.

That does seem a little backwards, Chris, but vacationing can be exhausting! I read on the plane, but that's about it - I get more reading in right before I got to sleep at night.

Great, thanks Amy. In fact I had only just reserved that book from the library service when I checked your discussion and it had been chosen as the group read. Even more reason to get on and get it read!

I've finally had a chance to start reading The Book Thief. It started out a bit rough for me - kind of hard to get into the writer's style - but now I am really enjoying it! I encourage anybody who is interested in participating in the discussion beginning on July 1st to get a copy!

I've been wanting to read TBT for a while, and this will give me an excuse to do it! Looking forward to the discussions in July

I'm about halfway through the book and am really enjoying it. For those of you who haven't started, don't be alarmed by the length of the book - it is a very fast read!

I just finished it last night and it was terrific, really liked this book allot. To be honest I was not quite sure if I was going to like this book. But "The Book Thief" was outstanding and unafraid of pulling any punches what so ever. I will say no more until everyone has finished. Looking forward to reading everyones opinions on this title.
