Recommend some stuff, let people know about new authors, help people find some good books to read.

I want to try to help people (including myself) find some lesser known, obscure, new, or under appreciated authors. I have nothing against Heinlein, Dick,...more »

Help me with title and author too...

I read a book several years ago (actually listened to an audio book), it was a story that took place in New York and it had to do with monster type creatures that killed people and the people who lived beneath NY were helping a reporter discover the truth. One of the lead characters was called "Scribbler." It was great I wish I could recall more details - I hope SOMEONE can help me.

Is it "the Light at the End" by John Skipp & Craig Spector?

That sounds like very much RELIQUARY, by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. "Scribbler" isn't his real name, just what one of the other characters calls him, and actually it's "Scribblerian" or something like that - his real name is Bill Smithback. (Yes, I know far too much about this book... I'm a fanatic about the whole series. :) ) The "monsters" are often referred to as "Wrinklers," if we're thinking of the same book... Story starts out with something about a socialite named Pamela being murdered?

Thank you, thank you!! I read the back of the book and that is it! I am very grateful for your help! I will be checking into the book some more and the sequels as well. I really appreciate your help. Can you recommend any other books? Thanks again!!

I also recommend other novels by the same authors: Ice Limit is pretty good, and has a bit of connection to the above series through one of the characters. Thunderhead (my best friend doesn't like that one, because he doesn't like Bill Smithback, who is one of the main characters in this, but if you want to know how Smithback met Nora Kelly, this is a must-read), Mount Dragon... I quite enjoyed Riptide, once I got over being annoyed at the main character not seeing the (to me) obvious clues about certain events.

Any of the Pendergast novels are absolutely fantastic. Of the Preston/Child books Reliquary is probably my favorite, Mount Dragon being my least favorite.

Just curious, though I can probably search Wikipedia for the info, which was the first in the Pendergast series? I would like to dive into it soon.

The first was Relic, followed by Reliquary.
