    Deathworld by Harry Harrison

    Save Changes Cancel
I have just read Deathworld by Harry Harrison, I wasn't going to read it soon but I thought that I would just peak at the few pages in the front and the next thing I knew I read it all day. This happened yesterday and I finished it today.

It was quite an griping story, but all I think I did found some similarities with AVATAR.(Or my mind is playing with me)
Like the psi connection on Pyrrus seemed like the nerve root connection on Pandora.
That and the planet fight against the invaders jointly.

The similarities are minor but still concrete.

    Have anyone read it???

Yes, it does seems that way frankly earlier I though his main inspiration was just Barsoom series.

Oh, no. He stole from the Harrison you just mentioned, from Le Guin's "The Word For World Is Forest", from Poul Anderson, from C. S. Lewis, from...he actually took very little from Burroughs.

Its not bad, but I didn't find it as gripping as other people did. The idea of a sentient planet is cool. The idea that if you live in harmony it won't try to kill you, but if you try to transform it or kill its creatures you will be attacked was intriguing. I don't think I read the follow up books, though. Were they decent?

Robert Charles Wilson did a sophisticated riff on this in "Bios."

      @ Dan

      Thanks for viewing and commenting

You are quite right, on shelfari only the first 3 books are there.
      Deathworld 1, Deathworld 2 and Deathworld 3
These are the part of Original Deathworld Trilogy from 60s.

However the author has written additional novels in continuation, these are the ones that I have mentioned.
I checked it on wikipedia as well as the author's official website. These are however never written with collaboration with Ant Skalandis in Russian and still remained untranslated in English.

Thanks for commenting, I have edited these details into the post

I have also replied the same on the bolg

I loved the Deathworld series and Jason dinAlt! One of my favorite series on par with "The Barsoom Series" by Edgar Rick Burroughs.

Ah! Barsoom is quite amazing, Jason dinAlt is quite cool.

I have only read the first book of Deathworld and first two of the Barsoom.
They are a great sci-fi adventure stories

through John Carter and Jason dinAlt are quite the counter of each other.

John Carter goes to mars where gravity is low so he is quite powerful there
Jason dinAlt goes to Pyrrus where gravity is high so he is quite weak there

Through both become heroes in a very hostile world.
