Science fiction includes such a wide range of themes and sub-genres that it is notoriously difficult to define. This is a list of definitions that have been offered by authors, editors, critics and fans over the years since science fiction became clearly separate from other genres. The Best Sci Fi/Fantasy Bookstore in your area (used or new)

The Best sci-fi bookstore in Delaware is in the town of Claymont and is called "Between Books." it has been around at least since the mid 1970s and has survived the appearance of Barnes & Nobles, Booksamillion, etc chains that wiped out a good number of the smaller independent bookstores. If there is a book you are looking for the owner either has it or can tell you where to get it and is involved with many local authors peddling their books. The Owner, Greg still operates and has since it opened.

    I was curious:
1.Which is the best local bookstore that you venture into?
    2. Does anyone know some bookstores that specifically cater to sci fi/fantasy?
    3. What is the name of your favorite "used" book store?( in Texas we have a chain called "Half-Price Books")

We have half-price books here in Ohio too, it's where I shop or BandN and Borders.

The best scifi only book store I have ever been to was "The Stars Our Destination" in Chicago. Unfortunately now it is closed.

I had no idea the chain was in Ohio as well, I thought it was a strictly Texas chain:)

I knew a sci fi bookstore too in Greensboro, NC called "Cosmic Castle" but it went out of buisness as well. The big chains of the 1990s killed a lot of the smaller bookstores, unfortunately that was one of them.

In Salt Lake City you have to go to Sam Weller's Bookstore. They have both new and used books. So you can get both in one location. They have quite a big SF&F section but also carry many other books.

There's a great used book store in San Clemente, CA called Mathom House Books (www.mathomhousebooks.com). They have a backroom devoted to SF/Fantasy (which is being expanded) as well as a huge selection of classics, thrillers and romance. Bill Anderson, the owner, is very helpful and is a great resource when looking for "something new" to read. Used books are generally 50% of the cover (and they have a daily special of buy 2 get one free) but he also carries new books.
