Science fiction includes such a wide range of themes and sub-genres that it is notoriously difficult to define. This is a list of definitions that have been offered by authors, editors, critics and fans over the years since science fiction became clearly separate from other genres. Has anyone read any of her books?

She is participating on another site where I am active. She says good things but seems unctuous and pretentious. If that follows through in her fiction, I'll probably not be interested. After all, people say the same thing about me and I can't write worth a damn!

No, I never heard about her. What kinds of books she writes?

Jacqueline Lichtenberg began as a TOS Star Trek fanfic writer many years ago. She was actually the first writer to develop an alternate fanfic universe series called "Kraith" @ http://www.simegen.com/fandom/startrek/kraith/ where Kirk is adopted into Spock's family as a tactic against a movement by various alien worlds to secede from the UFP. She began it in 1969 when the TV series was canceled. She also co-wrote "Star Trek Lives", an early work about the TOS fandom and created her own Sime-Gen universe dealing with vampire-like aliens on Earth. I've read most of her early works and find that her characters never really come alive for me. In fact I've said that the Kraith stories seem to be written by Vulcans.

Where did you come across her?

She participated in several discussion on another book site having nothing to do with SF.

Funny - I didn't do extensive research on her book list but the first page of the Shelfari list for her has nothing about Star Trek. I like to support authors that participate on discussion sites but I don't buy books just for that purpose. That's why I asked about opinions of her work.

My TBR pile is staggering already so I suspect it won't be burdened with her books in the near future anyway.

      Thanks for the feedback!

She's probably distancing herself from her fanac days, now wanting to be thought of as a serious writer sort of like Vonnegut not wanting to be considered a science fiction writer.
