Okay, folks. I am not a novelist yet, although I am currently working on a YA urban fantasy. But I have written several fan fiction stories, mostly in the Gundam Wing section, and they can be found over at www.fanfiction.net.
My pen name over there is RedLion2. I just want to say, too, that I think writing fan fiction is making me a better writer. If you don't handle those characters well, the people who are attached to them can get mighty upset...

      What's fan fiction?

      Tiffany S. C.

Jadeheart- Fan fiction is when you write a story using someone else's characters. Take... oh, Pokemon, for a hopefully well-known example. You would write a story about Ash, Misty, and Brock jumping in a lake to save Pikachu or something. It didn't actually happen in the real movies or whatever, but you're writing about it. Your storyline, their characters. Get it?

I personally cannot do fan fiction, but I do have a certain amount of respect for those who can. Taking another person's characters and playing them- well, that is- has got to be hard.

Please visit http://www.lulu.com/nigeledwards, where you can download a free eBook version of The Cookie Tin. Next month I hope to have my full-length novel, PRISM - Exiles, available for both eBook download and paperback sale. THis is the introduction to that sttory:
"Luke Adams is a rather weak individual who earns his way as a teacher of English language at an English secondary school. In the middle of his humdrum life, Luke is transported to a different world. A few hundred other souls are transported with him, pulled into adventure by the simple virtue of their proximity. The catalyst for the transportation is a plate embedded in Luke’s skull, the result of a traffic accident. This plate was made from a metal that contained minute particles from a machine that was destroyed in a war, a war that took place on a planet an immeasurable distance from Earth, and quite possibly far away in time. The particles from the machine – which should not be considered a mere mechanical device – were hurled across the space-time divide, to mingle with the broiling firmament of our nascent planet, later to be mined and incorporated into the medical plate Luke received. However, while the motes were the catalyst, they were not the engineers of the transportation – that was the product of deliberate action – but who those engineers were, what their purpose might be, and exactly what they wanted of Luke, is the subject of this book ..."

I hope you will take the time to visit Lulu and let me have your feedback.

    Best Wishes,

Hi i've had a look at your book. I love the cover design. It makes you wonder whether this is the new world that Luke Adams is transported to. I love your writing style which is in the first person. It's easy to read, very clear to understand as well. I must say that your story is a great concept. Think about pitching it to sell TV rights to the BBC if you are in England. It would do well as a TV series. I wish you every success in the marketing of your work. I will recommend it to my sci-fi friends !!!. I will check to see if it is available on shelfari.

    Hi Writing Readers,

I am a newly published children's author (Nov, 2007) that writes adventure gamebooks for 8-12 year olds. They are similar to the "Fighting Fantasy" and "Choose Your Own Adventure Books that were popular during the 1980's and 1990's.

My first book is called "Invitation to a Feast." The blurb for the book follows below:

The young rabbit, Jumpster Hopper has received his first ever invitation to the annual feast of the Noble Ranger, the caretaker of Woodland Forest. He soon discovers, however, that it will take more than just turning up in order to be gained entry. His invitation is actually a test, which he must pass before he will be permitted to enjoy the delights of the day.

"If you really want to be at my feast, keep the following commands as you travel to my home:

    - Stay on the Cobblestone Road.
    - Make straight paths for your feet.
    - Hold on to this invitation at all times."

Will Jumpster hold firm and succeed or will the followers of the Noble Ranger’s treacherous foe, the Dark Panther, effectively thwart Jumpster from reaching his destination?

Unlike regular books, Invitation to a Feast is part story and part game. This means that the success of Jumpster will depend on YOU. Two dice, a pencil and an eraser are all that you need to follow the progress of the main character in this adventure. All the decisions that need to be made throughout the story are in YOUR hands.

Are you up to the challenge?

IF YOU WANT TO READ AN EXCERPT OF THE STORY, (THE FIRST 10 PAGES) PLEASE VISIT MY SITE AT www.freewebs.com/jumpsterhopper

I found out today that a short story I entered in a regional writing contest won first place! The contest owners don't publish the stories, but my prize includes an opportunity to read at a literary festival going on during the Detroit Festival of the Arts (June 8).

"All Hallows Eve in the Shrine of Dead Celebrities" is a gritty, surrealist urban fairy tale of religious devotion and tabloid spirituality set in a near-future Hollywood. If it gets picked up by a national publication, I'll no doubt post another bulletin ordering you to run out and buy a copy. :)

Love this honest discussion title! I have a new novel out, my fifth book, Blue Hole Back Home, being billed as a story of race and reconciliation. It's doing well as a book club discussion book, and is generating lots of interesting cultural discussions, here in this age of political debate on just how we're doing with race and diversity and hope. My web site is www.joyjordanlake.com, and the novel is currently available at most major bookstores and amazon--and can be ordered, of course, from those heroic local independent stores. Love to hear back from anyone who takes a look at it!

      Hi all!
I've just published "OUTLINING: The Published Novelist's Secret for Success," an e-book, which shares fun, easy, and successful techniques for brainstorming and outlining characters, plot, settings, and theme.

If you are struggling with half-finished drafts and weak characters, feel free to learn more at www.stirlingediting.com/ebook1.html

Owner and principal editor of Stirling Editing, I have been a professional editor of fiction for over 5 years.

Here's what Elizabeth Lyon, the author of six books for writers on all aspects of writing, revision, and marketing, had to say: "Freelance book editor, Cheri Lasota (Stirling Editing), has taken all the frowns and fiddling out of the process of outlining a novel and replaced them with quick, valuable, and FUN techniques I wish I had known when I began writing fiction. Hi group,

I have written an autobiography entitled, "I Do." It tells my story from birth to about two years ago, a span of about 50 years. I share many of the struggles I had to deal with through short stories and poetry. It is my walk through my own wilderness to my Promised Land. I find the story very inspiring and I read my own book again and again. It is my memorial to God. It shows how he delivered me by his mighty hand and led me to the place I found myself at the end of the book.
I had the opportunity to speak to a woman's group and I shared one of my poems, one I thought summed up my whole life. After reading it, the women became overwhelmed and began to cry, praise God and pray for one another for a full 30 minutes. You see, everyone has had to face their own trials and endure their own storms, some are still in the midst of it. But I went through and am able to come to them and share that "the storm is not meant to last." The clouds will roll back, the waves will become calm, and the winds will cease and they will find themselves at their appointed destiny. Yes, yes, they will.
My book is available at the publisher www.trafford.com/06-2407, on Amazon.com and can be ordered through any major bookstore or by any library using the ISBN: 978-1-4251-0649-2.

More about my book can be obtained at www.myspace.com/d_lanette.
And I may be contacted at doristrueheart@aol.com to arrange group readings, signings, or speaking engagements or to inquire about purchasing autographed editions.

  • MarkHarrison

    MarkHarrison

I'm Mark Harrison, and I've got a couple of things currently available from Amazon. Both are non-fiction, and unlikely to be of interest to anyone outside of the UK.

The original is a 4-CD audiobook, published by Nightingale Conant, called "How to become a UK Property Millionaire."

It was originally published in 2004, but in 2006 we re-did 1 quarter of the material, ie 1 CD, to reflect changes in the market. This had been planned all along, and the first 3 CDs were intended to be "timeless" and the 4th was intended to be "current". It meant we could offer existing "readers" an update rather than asking them to go and buy a completely new version.

Then, in 2007, I self-published (through Lulu) a 200 page book - Property Negotiation, which was a far more in-depth treatment of one of the most popular sections of the audio book.

One of the things I got RIGHT in 2004 was that I set up a website specifically to back-end the original book, and used that website to capture email addresses of readers who wanted a free monthly newsletter. While the bulk of the newsletter is "content" rather than adverts, it meant that I had a tame market to whom I could promote the 2007 book.

The choice to self-publish the second book was driven by that, and the far higher margins, in what is a very small niche. Both are firmly in the long tail :-)

I'm currently working on 2 more books, one, which again I'll be self-publishing, is "How to make money in a property crash" (though it may be called "Real Estate crash" come publication, so it appeals to the US market as well.)

The other is a commission - I've been commissioned by the Overseas Guide Company to write "The Canada Buyers Guide" - OGC are a specialist trade publisher who produce books for UK buyers looking to buy houses outside of the UK.

    Hi Writers and readers.

My name is Doris Trueheart and I have just published a very intimate and inspiring autobiography told through short stories and poetry. It deals with the host of difficulties I have faced through life from birth to age 50, incliding but not limited to domestic violence, abandonment, rejection, alcoholism, sickness and broken relationships and of how my relationship with God sustained me and brought me through it all. I tell the story but as anyone telling their own story not everything is revealed, so in reading the poetry the heart is exposed and the full story is revealed. It is a book that draws you back to reread. It is published by Trafford Publishers and more information is on the site www.trafford.com/06-2407. I have a webpage at www.myspace.com.d_lanette. The book is available for ordering through Amazon.com and other large national and international retailers and wholesalers by requesting ISBN 978-1-4251-0649-2.

I am available for book signings, readings and speaking engagements (just send a personal message).

      Anna E,

You are so wrong. There are other young published authors. Just write your books and if it is a children's book, I would recommend working with a good illustrator.
Even if you can't find a publisher, mom and dad may help you self-publish. I know of a teacher who did a class project and the class wrote and published a book. Perhaps even a teacher would help you get your book out.
I used to be a Girl Scout leader for 10 years. They had a program called "Wider Opportunities" where they helped girls do many exciting things, writing a book sounds like something they would support. I'm sure I and others could help you find resources to support you getting it published, the main thing is to get it written.

I'm joining all the Shameless Self-Promoters to say that MY LIFE AS A CONCUBINE was just released from www.phaze.com...
    HERE'S A BLURB:

My Life as a Concubine is the lively account of a savvy, New York City woman, never married, not looking to be, who suddenly falls in love with a Frenchman. After several enchanting years together, Jean-Loup tells Robin that he must return to France. She is in a quandary-stay on the isle of Manhattan where she has work, friends and speaks the lingo or depart for Paris with the utterly adorable frog prince? There is one teensy-weensy problem-Jean-Loup hasn't asked her to go with him. When he finally pops the question, it certainly isn't the one she expects.

Hi, I'm new here! I just published a work of creative non-fiction called: In a Cradle of Words: Intimate encounters in relational therapy. Sounds like a therapy book, but it's also a love story and memoir of my father's death by alcoholism. It's a genre buster--I don't know HOW to describe it, except to say it's very experiential and not like most non-fiction you've read. It's available on Amazon. My partner and co-author have also shamelessly self-published because we're pretty clueless about the whole "getting a publisher" thing. Anyway, my blog is seattlerelationalcounseling.com/blog (the book is more literary than the blog). I'm beginning work on a second book that I hope to publish the old fashioned way--more to come on that! Thanks for tolerating my shamelessness here--I'm not very comfortable with this yet.

Hi. I have just had my fourth book published, PARANOID LOST, a collection of short stories. I had two novels about schizophrenia published by Publish America:
THE TEMPTRESS ARIEL, about a schizophrenic couple's romance, and SELENE'S GUIDING LIGHT, a fantasy. My first poetry collection, SONNETS AND POETIC PLAYS, was self-published on Lulu.com. These books have received good reviews
and I hope some of you might check them out. My website, if anyone is interested, is: Http://gbauder0.tripod.com -Greg Bauder

No, I am not the fool from King Lear. I thought my posts weren't going through.
Oops! I forgot to mention I have a new poetry book, WALLS AND HEADSPACE,
due out from Chipmunka Publishing next month. I have published in many literary magazines as well as pagan ones and my writing ranges from the avant-garde to the amusing and also to formulaic traditions. If anyone is curious about my work

I figured that since everyone is telling everyone else about they're books and writing projects, I would too.

This is what I am currently writing:
    Silent Memory-
Estrella Vega is a young woman of 18 who can no longer talk because of wounds inflicted by her husband when he was high. After trying to kill herself in the hospital, she is sent to live with the hospital psycaitrist who makes her write down her story in a journal. The book begins with her talking angrily about her past and ends with Estrella trying to leave her past behind as she begins to cope and heal.

    Here's a quote:

"My psycaitrist told me to describe the... accident, if you could call it that. I don't know about her perspective, since she thinks the world can be a utopia, but I can't call it an accident when the person I once loved more than anything in the world is so high on heroin that he gives into his personal demons. Demons that landed me in this stupid hospital..."

If you've stayed long enough to read this, please leave a note telling me what you think about Silent Memory.

Wow! Congratulations Deb! Tiger Publications... *writes that down* ^_^ I've got a little list going, for when I'm ready to publish Heaven's Wrath...

Speaking of which, I may as well join the thousands of others in blurbing about my book! It's called Heaven's Wrath, for reasons yet unknown (to my readers, not to me. I figured it out last month. ^_^), and it's about half-human half-animal people. The main character is Arden, a half-eagle teenager with a very complex history. I have yet to create an 'official' summary, my pitiful words falling far short of the true majesty of the thing, so instead I shall link you to a page where you may find the current story; http://forums2.battleon.com/f/tm.asp?m=14240411

That is Heaven's Wrath, as much as I have done at this moment. I invite anyone who's interested to read at least the prologue and tell me what they think of it. To finish off my post, and give a better example of the feel of the thing, I shall include the poem from the start here:

Not many people go willingly to death.
Those that do are either blessed...
    or cursed.
    I am cursed.

I guess I am a member now. Currently I am writing a book about patientw with Hansen's disease who were forced to live on a remote section of Molokai, Hawaii.
I am reading hundreds of articles, books and interviewing hundreds of people.
It is hard work, I love it but it keeps me occupied much of my time.

Speaking of people who go willingly to death, Mother Teresa lived life to the most intense but she eagerly awaited death as did her patron saint Therese of Lisieux. Right now I am writing about Father Damien who went willingly to death, a hard death as a leper. I hope to make friends with my death so when he comes I can welcome him. I hope to die young at a very old age.

Hi there, I'm new to Shelfari and to this group, but what a cool site! Anyway, I'm a struggling writer; I've had a couple of short stories published, in History Is Dead (edited by Kim Paffenroth) and ChimeraWorld #3 (edited by Mike Philbin). I'm also in the process of publishing a novel online in installments. It's called The Omitted 13th, and if you want to read it, it's at http://www.textnovel.com/stories_list_detail.php?story_id=156. Thanks!

Well, my first time here too. And I am shameless.

In an earlier life I sold to film and TV, ghosted for a health foood guru, and was a "with" for two non-fiction books.

My first novel, thriller-suspense-horror, A GATHERING OF VULTURES, DarkHart Press, was published last year. My protagonists are a wife and husband pair of professional ballroom dancers who encounter dark, mysterious women, black vultures, and horror on an island in Brazil.

By the end of October, my magnum opus historical novel, ROCAMORA, set in 17th century Spain and Amsterdam, will be released. My historical MC was the Domincan confessor and spiritual director for the Infanta of Spain when she was in her teens and he was only five years older than she. Currently I am writing the sequel to ROCAMORA. According to my research, no book, monograph, or even an article in a journal has been written about him. Great opportunities for me to fill in the huge gaps between what is known about him.

For more information about me and my novels please see my site: www.donaldmichaelplatt.com

    Hi everyone,

There's nothing like shameless self-promo to get the blood pumping!

"The Back of My Mind" is the first novel in my series. Trevor Samuels, an investigator with fifteen years experience, is commissioned to investigate three arson losses. After numerous leads fail to generate any suspects, he suddenly gets a break in the form of fifteen-year-old Goth boy named Jesse. Jesse is heavily involved in the contraband cigarette market and he exposes Trevor to this seedy underworld. While trying to determine if the arsons are related to the contraband cigarette market, Trevor uncovers greed, murder and corruption among the people he respects most. Join Trevor as he investigates the most difficult case of his career, a case that will either make his career or haunt him for the remainder of his life.

"The Back of My Mind" is finally available for purchase! Please visit my official website noted below for full details, or my CreateSpace E-store at https://createspace.com/3354075 to purchase a copy. If you prefer, you can purchase an autographed copy from Author's Den (http://authorsden.com/stevenpayette). My novels are unique in that reader participation is encouraged! A question is asked at the end of each novel, and it's up to you, the reader, to decide whether or not a character or team of characters make it into subsequent novels in the series. I intended on incorporating the winning vote from "The Back of My Mind" in the second novel, but the second novel may be published shortly after the first. To solve this problem, I've decided to incorporate the winning vote resulting from "The Back of My Mind" reader participation section into volume three of the series (which has yet to be written). The most popular vote from the reader participation section of "PAIN" will be written into the fourth volume.

Please see the reader participation section on my website (http://geocities.com/samuelstrevor/index) for full details. The first few chapters of both novels are also on the site, as are my book trailers.

Thanks for your time! Happy reading, everyone.
