Am I correct to assume that we have until at least mid-August to submit recipes? I am still waiting for my tomatoes to ripen. We have a lot of green ones just hanging there not turning red...

Yes, I made this a long contest because so many people go on vacation in the summer, etc. Now you've given another reason, we have to wait for the tomatoes to ripen to come up with some stellar experiments!

I'm liking the recipes so far! I've been lazy, I'm sorry to say. *Hangs head in shame* Also having computer problems here and there, so attendance is spotty. Keep 'em coming!

I have a recipe that I'm thinking of posting but it's not an original creation and I really have no idea where it came from. It's just on a stained index card in my recipe file. Is it ethical to post it if I can't credit a source? If I tweak the ingredients a bit, does that make it a new recipe?

Denizen - I think, for our purposes, that is fine. There is no cash prize involved, we are, essentially, just looking for good recipes to share with one another. Kind of like sitting around a kitchen table, only ours is very big. :) If you state that it's not your original, but one of your families favorites, that is enough. I personally think the "award" should go to the best recipe, not necessarily an original.

From what I've read on copyright laws of recipes, they are vague. If it is from a magazine which you've read recently, or a cookbook which is known to you, it is polite and proper to give the origin and source if known, but if it's an old clipping which has been in the file for years, it hardly matters.

firefly - I'm going to try your tomato & eggplant recipe tonight, I think. DH just brought home 2 big eggplants.

It was YUM! I love mixing the cooked veggies into the fresh tomatoes. Very simple too.

I like simple, especially on the stovetop. Plus, I thought it was very refreshing, and good for you. I'm really glad you liked it ^_^
