    October in the Kitchen

    Save Changes Cancel
Better late than never? I've been busy and not on here much lately, but it has involved cooking!

I made this cake: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/simply-delicious-strawberry-cake-recipe/index.html last weekend. Not sure what I'm going to make this weekend.

    What are you doing?

I was with my son and family last week and did some cooking for them. A baked chicken one night, chicken soup another and, finally, a chicken-chickpea-pasta stew from Cooking Light Oct. 2007. My DIL was picking the protein and it was mostly chicken because of the kids.

Had a potluck feast last night that I took green bean casserole, leek chard and corn flatbread, and anise almond biscotti to. This coming week I'm going to try a pork fennel stew in the crockpot and later this month I'll be making chocolate tarantulas in honor of Halloween.

Currently looking at Tosca Reno's Eat Clean cookbook; lots of nice simple recipes like roasted garlic and kale chips. There is an orange almond dessert cake I'd love to try. And tofu creme brulee???

I've been on a candy making kick, first with sesame brittle and then today I tried making cider caramels (good but STICKY).

This has been a cauliflower week. I picked up a lovely one at the farmers' market. First I made a Tuscan soup (cauliflower, kale and Italian sausage) and yesterday I made Cream of Cauliflower soup with the other half. I've also loaded up on carrots for the winter--approx. 12 lbs. --9 nine or 10 of orange and a few yellow. The yellow roasted so nicely in the oven, I went back today and bought another 3 lbs of yellow.
