How to derive results out of a Business Book?

I am keen to know what others do while reading a Business or a Self Development book. How do you best make use of what you have learnt?

    Thanks!

I read business books to find new insights on business problems. Opening the mind to new ideas helps not only finding solutions to present business problems but also broadens my view of business environment. Applying knowledge from books to practice is possible (I have done is several times, although I always adapt them to the context) but demands a lot of discipline, teamwork and people management skills (after all, it's people that makes ideas happen).

I think execution is the key, because inspiration alone is not enough.

I start off small and take one thought, or idea that I would like to apply. Once you try it out and see how it works, then you can try a few more of the points that resonated with you from the book.

Thank you Henrique, Katyayni & Laurie.

I read a blog post at the Seth Godin Blog and it mentioned the one needs to create actionable points and then marching order to achieve them.
Basically ensure that you know what to do and go about doing them.

Some good points mentioned here. I have to mash up the books I like. I highlight and underline the points I really like and that may prove actionable. Then after I have read it ... I read it again, but only the highlighted parts, which are probably less than 5%, and figure out how I can implement some of the ideas. For my all-time favorite books, I will review them every six months or so and look and see if I have practiced what I learned.
