    Couple of Questions

    Save Changes Cancel
I've just started working on my Shelfari info and had a few questions. I have a book, which obviously has been confused with another. It's been given a subtitle and a new publisher. How do I correct this? I had a similar mix-up at Amazon, with the same title, and I have no idea why. The page is: http://www.shelfari.com/books/29735556/Stormy-Weather-%28Charlotte-Justice%29. It has absolutely nothing to do with anyone named "Charlotte Justice," and I'm not published through One World/Ballantine.

Next, I write under a pen name as well as my real name. How can I create an author page for the pen name? I have both on the same account with Amazon Authors Central, but it didn't translate to Shelfari.

    Thanks all for any help.

Hi Laura--It looks like the title has been updated on Shelfari. As for pen names, on Shelfari our guidelines are for the author name used for a specific book to be added to those books. So you might have some books with "Laura Wright" and some with your pen name. Currently, we don't have a way to associate that certain pen names are for certain authors.

Thanks! I didn't know if it might create a problem. A lot of sites will lock you out of certain features if you aren't recognized as the author in their network. I worried I might start adding info and suddenly hit a wall or something where I couldn't add anything more.

      Laura Wright,

In case none of us has yet pointed this out to you...

      http://www.shelfari.com/groups/59851/about

This is linked via one of the pinned threads at the top of this discussion list, btw.

You'll find a lot of useful information there. I especially recommend that you read the part labeled "Why edit..."

That may help you better understand how all this stuff works together.

Let me/us know if you have more questions.

Just to clarify what Amanda said: Use the "name" as primary author on the Shelfari book page that match the name actually found on the covers. If, in reprinting old books (or reissuing as eBooks), another name is used, it is still the policy to use the name that is found on the most separately-published editions of that title.

Please do not use the other name(s) on the Shelfari book pages at all. Instead, for each author record assocaited with each unique name, add the explanation of "also writes as ..." to the top part of the overview section.

      Helpful?

We DO have a way to show that certain pen names are for certain authors. On the Book Extras page that comes up when you click on the cover of a book, scroll down a bit to "authors and contributors." You can alter the author's name by editing here, either doing it backwards -- "Richard Bachman, author," and in the narrative box underneath you can add "real name Stephen King," or frontwards, as in "Ann Rule, author," and in the narrative box you put "writing as Andy Stack" or "originally published under the pen name Andy Stack."

Agreed. The text boxes describing the role played is an appropriate place to put such information. However, the actual "other"name should not be listed separately (hot-linked) as a contributor. Thanks, Eileen, for offering that further information.
