I thought this site was a way i could share books I've downloaded on kindle, or at least sync books i have on it yo my shelf. Am i wrong on either or both?

The first you are incorrect on. The second-- partially. You can sync your bought books from your Amazon account to your Shelfari bookshelf.

Thanks for the bad and good news:/ so is this basically just another social site, or are there actually any good discussions on literature? I don't read enough but thats something I'm trying to change.

There are some great groups for discussing literature-- if I were you I'd check out the most active groups page (http://www.shelfari.com/groups) and sort by all time and then if what you want isn't there I'd switch over to using our multipurpose search bar (click on where it says books to change it to searching groups).

Hi Steve--Once you've downloaded your Amazon purchases (which include your Kindle books) by using the link on your home page--you can share about books on Twitter or Facebook (using the EDIT button beneath your books). As Keeziegirl mentioned, you can also find discussion groups about a variety of different genres, authors, topics, etc...
