I guess a better question would be "why" ... why can't members delete content they post on someone else's profile? It seems like a basic interface like an inbox/outbox for notes you post and receive would be simple enough.
After a year on this site, digging through the interfaces and also the message boards, it seems like this is a bizarre case of a lack of control over one's own content - and a question that has cropped up before. Users have control over the public edits they make to books and control over content they post to their own profile/shelf. We can even delete something that another user has posted on our page.
The problem with requesting that the recipient delete the note you sent to them is that when users go inactive there is no one at all who can delete notes for you.
Furthermore - and this has occurred 3 times to me already - with no "outbox" for your notes, I have no record of who i even have left notes for. For instance, I will make a note for a user asking permission to follow their shelf. If I do not get a reply, i would like to rescind my note that now sits awkwardly in their profile. I can't ask them to delete it for me, because i don't recall who it was ... plus they never replied to me in the first place.
I second other users requests to have a way to manage all notes to and from you. I would love an explanation but ultimately a fix!
